I’m not suggesting this is the only path to follow. It’s the path I follow. Back in 1998 when I started investing I set a personal target of if I can’t return 10% a year I’ll give the job to someone who can.
That was back in 98. I’m what could be defined as financially prudent. If I thought I was doing a bad job, I’d sack myself and buy a tracker.
Impressive. So you've made 10% every single year since 1998, that means you've increased your capital 4.5 folds. Where do I sign up?
The trouble is, judging by your initial post about dumping the "lot into MFM SlaterGrowth" is that it is very high risk. Very high in equity content, and predominantly invested in UK only with little diversification. I don't think OP would be able to cope when that fund falls during the next market correction.
Stephen Covey once said that "when you teach once, you learn twice". That is the primary reason for my participation on the forums as an IFA.
Although I strive to provide accurate information in my posts, there may be the odd time when I fail. Yes I know it's hard to believe but even Your Hero can make mistakes. Apologies in advance.0 -
Hi again,
I still haven't got round to opening a SIPP yet, but I'm on the verge of doing so. However, could somebody talk me through the best investments for someone in my position please?
Basically, on the Hargreaves and Lansdown website, it has a SIPP investment ideas section. If I click on conservative, and enter £10,000 as a lump sum, it comes up with these ideas (see below). As I'm not sure what's what, does this look like a safe and good investment idea?
Thanks again for your advice.
