Just a short update. Today is my 21st birthday and I have received some birthday money from my mum ($2500) which I am so grateful for. I knew I was getting money but I didn't think it was going to be that much. I was expecting like $500 or something.
I have also received some money from other relatives.
Also I have already started planning to try and return some of the gifts I've received from extended family. (Is that evil/ungrateful of me?)
Will update with exact figures once I have them.$10k Emergency Fund - DONE!

Thanks for dropping in
So I've got my figures.
$2500 birthday gift from mum
+ $130 gift from family members
+ $4.65 left over from something else that I thought I'd just throw in for the hell of it.
New total = $6003.61
Woohoo! I've hit the 6k mark!

I am 30% there.
I have been stalking places on Realestate.com.
I am torn between getting a really basic 1 bedder in a year or so (I'm a minimalist at heart so small doesn't really bother me as long as it's tidy and functional) or waiting for another couple of years and getting a nice 2 or 3 bedder. The more space you have, the more crap you end up buying to fill it I suppose.
It's so hard to know what to do and what my life will be like in 1-2 years' time, but I can't help but try to plan things (am also a control freak at heart).
Off to update my siggy!$10k Emergency Fund - DONE!

Far out. The internet just ate my giant post that I typed out. ARGH.
Anyway, what I was trying to say is that I have been scheming up some new ways to save myself even more money.
I'd been considering doing the cash envelope system as I do struggle with sticking to my budget, especially in the area of grocery shopping.
I'd be all over the envelope system if it weren't for the fact that I have a really good rewards credit card that I get free through work. So I'd been trying to think of a way that I could do the cash envelope system whilst still getting the points on my card.
And then it hit me...
I could use the credit card to purchase gifts cards for my local grocery store (I only ever shop at the one place). It would be the perfect solution because I'd be forced to stick to the amount on the gift card, and I'd still get to use my credit card and get my points.
And then something else happened. I googled gift cards for this particular grocery store, and figured out that members of a certain brand of car insurance had access to a discounts website where you can purchase grocery store gift cards at 5% off. Now I'm not a member of this particular car insurance, but my mother is. So as long as I can convince her to let me use her login to purchase gift cards, I am practically laughing. :rotfl:
And get this, people. The same grocery store does petrol stations, so I can use the cards there as well. That's 5% off petrol too.
Say what you will about me, but at this point in time, I am what can only be described as a Budgeting Genius. Maybe I should write a book? :T
Now I am off to do some more scheming. Trying to see if it would be cheaper to change my car insurance over to the Magical Gift Card people, but their stupid website is down

So I've decided to become a member of the Magical Gift Card insurance people. It will cost me around $50 extra a year but I'll still save about $150 a year with the grocery discount.
Also with my membership I get roadside assistance, which is basically a thing where if your car breaks down on the side of the road in the middle of no where, they will send someone out to either fix your car or tow you and give you a ride back into town. Which is extremely good to have in a country like Australia where the next town can be 1+ hours away.
I can also get discounts for a lot of other places/things so it really works out in my favour.
Now off to do some more scheming...
Edit:
Am considering selling my Kindle on eBay as I hardly even use it. Wish I was at home so that I could list it right now.
Maybe there's some more stuff laying about the traps that I could sell on eBay. I can think of a particular pair of shoes actually.$10k Emergency Fund - DONE!
