Dell XPS 15 laptop - minor spill, now it won't boot. Do I have any options?

Hi everyone

I'm new on this forum, at least to posting, and wondered if you guys could help me.

I recently got an XPS 15 laptop from Dell Outlet which has a spill resistant keyboard and a 1 yr basic warranty. Within 48 hours I have managed to spill some whisky on the keyboard.

I immediately powered it down by holding in the on button til it cut out. I then dried it and left it inverted and upside down for 36 hours. Still it doesn't turn on. The battery is charged, the adapter seems to be working.

Partly this is an appeal for technical advice but mainly I am wondering if I have any rights with Dell at all, since I got it so recently. I am surprised at how fragile it appears to be given my previous experience with Dells, and that it advertises a spill resistant keyboard. Can anyone advise? Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum, tried to find the right one....

My bro did this to his dell laptop - it was tea though :-) I had to fix it for him.
Step 1 - remove the keyboard
Step 2 - use tissue to soak up all the liquid inside and on the detached keyboard.
Step 3 - gently clean the keyboard with slgihtly moist tissue
Step 4 - leave both to dry, laptop upside down so it allows any remaining liquid to come out, keep using tissue
Step 5 - leave it for a couple of days and replace keyboard.
Step 6 - if you are lucky it should power up

As you messed it up yourself - you are not covered by Dell - unless you took some insurance against yourself doing silly things like drunk while operaitng a laptop.

Word of warning, learn how to do detach keyboard before trying and how to reattach it. Even if you do not how to do it now, you should put the laptop keyboard facing down till you do. It may start up by itself in future but I would prefer to clean it inside if I could before reusing it.

Maybe too late now, but take out the battery and don't reconnect it until you're sure the insides have properly dried out.
