loan after being a discharged bankrupt of 5 years

just a question i hope someone can help me with
i am getting married next year and in order to ease things a little bit i was looking at applying for a loan. i went bankrupt over 5 years ago and have been discharged now for 5 years. i don't want to go with amigo or anyone like that and while i have been continually employed in good jobs for 17 years now and earn more than enough not to default i am not prepared to ask someone to be a guarantor for me with a guarantor loan. just been turned down by zopa because i said i had a ccj, does a discharged bankruptcy count towards a ccj?. has anyone in a situation like me ever had a loan that wasn't from one of these companies that are basically legal loan sharks?

  • Unfortunately with bankruptcy still on your credit file you're very unlikely to obtain and unsecured loan from any high street lender.
Please do not go down the payday/Amigo route as this is not going to help you in any way, shape or form... Getting into this type of debt for a wedding is hardly a good footing for a happy marriage. If you can't afford the wedding you want then either postpone it until finances permit or work out what you can cut back on to still bring it in on budget.

I would urge you to reconsider taking a loan for a wedding. There are a few threads here on MSE about doing 'occasions' on a shoe string, try joining in with one of them and seeing this as a challenge.

The excess money you feel you have each month to pay the loan back could be used instead to buy one of the things you need for the wedding.

Have you been saving anything during the 5 years, have to agree no normal company will touch you
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

To make things easier why not save up for it, you say you earn enough so why not. Just because you earn x amount it doesn't mean you won't default again.
  • The desire to build up debt again is an urge you should control.

    Save.

Getting into debt to get married is probably the stupidest excuse. Either save up for longer or have a budget wedding. Other wise you'll fall out over debt and then have to pay for a divorce.
