Co-op closing my account

There is a quote I can never recall fully but it goes something along the lines of ...good advice rarely does any harm on the grounds it is so rarely taken... No one wants to be condescending and when your life is in turmoil its easy to overlook details like the difference between current and basic account at a bank.
As alastairq and others have said, there is a world of difference between the basic and standard current accounts (anything other than a basic one will be closed in BR). This forum is also full of advice to the effect that sorting out bank accounts is a priority and needs prompt attention - many posters are not trying to be condescending but are trying to convey an appropriate level of urgency for both your benefit and the dozens of others who will see the post and the responses.

However, you are where you are and Barclays look like your best bet for free High Street banking. Most of us have found that they are extremely helpful. I hope you are on the mend now - it sounds like you've had a rough year - you are far from alone in that respect and most on here have walked in very similar shoes to your own.
