    Debt-free and Proud!
I agree with the above. Post a joint SOA and see how much there is to throw at the debt. I understand you taking on his debt as you are engaged, but so am I and my h2b's loan is his problem! He's paying it off before we get married so we'll start married life debt free.

Lunches - if you work near a supermarket you can do lunch for less than a pound a day.

    Hi Lucy,

I would be very cautious about paying such a large sum of money over.

What arrangement did your boyfriend have for paying the loan off in the first place? What has changed in regards to the original arrangement? Why has he got 2 large loans?

What arrangements are you going to put in place if after paying the £8000 debt off for him, he decideds to call it a day (sorry, it happens)

If you really want to help get yourselves on the property ladder, put your own money away in an ISA to start with, then other savings accounts. Your boyfriend should be sorting his own debts out.

  • £15 a week for contact lenses sounds like an awful lot. I pay £27 for a three-month supply from Vision Direct, plus get another 20% off through Quidco. The same contacts from the optician were three times the cost, so if you are buying your contacts from an optician you can probably save a lot by buying them online. Even the most expensive daily wear contacts from Vision Direct are only £16 a month.

We are engaged and this isnt just a casual relationship...

    I dont quite understand this?

I wouldnt say I was in a casual relationship but i wouldnt pay off my boyfriends debt. £8k for a car? If you want a house really quickly then maybe sell the car and get something cheaper?

I am in the process of buying my first home with my partner and I am in debt of 9.5k. which is my own debt i am paying off.

My OH has his debt he is paying off.

Its up to you what you do but if its debt you are jointly paying then it would help if you posted both SOA so we can help you BOTH pay it off quicker :)
