Match and more, not as good as it sounds

As the adverts stated I thought I might as well buy everything form Morrisons as they will match all prices, but all is not as it seems, They look at your total shopping bill not individual items, so if you buy anything that is cheaper in Morrisons than anywhere else this is offset against any savings. So this means you are still better off buying the items at the cheaper shop if you know you have bought goods on special offer in Morrisons.
I am sure this is the same for all price match deals but with Morrisons saying they will match Aldi and Lidl it makes you look again

An example

I bought a chicken that was £1 cheaper than anywhere else
I also bought box of fish that was £1.50 dearer than Aldi
The savings placed onto my match and more card was 50p, as the chicken offset the fish, so I would be better off buying the fish in Aldi

The scheme will only work if you don't buy any items in Morrisons that are cheaper than anywhere else

But isn't that the same as Asda, Tesco or. Sainsbury's price match schemes?????

another example just bought two cases of twenty bottles of budwieser (for christmas stock ) currant tesco price £10 per case Morrisons price £13 per case grabbed a pack of pepsi max morrisons special offer £3.50p so i thought the price match would be £6 but because the pepsi is cheaper price matched at £5.50p so i would have been better off leaving the pepsi and just buying the beer to receive the £6 price match crazy or what..Ian

Pretty sure they're all the same that's why I shop at the cheapest shop for all the items that I need as I'm lucky enough to be pretty close to all the main 6 shops
  • Here's the thing they don't like to publicize (from T&C's):
10.2 Our Price Match Guarantee applies when you spend more than £15 in one transaction with us at participating stores and online.

Not good for me as I do smaller shops usually. They do still give you the 'bonus points' for buying the selected products they want to shift by the job lot, irrespective of spend though.

They make it very clear here https://www.morrisons.com/matchandmore/price-match.html

And it is mentioned in writing on the screen during their advert. Not to mention on the leaflet to apply for one and the letter the card arrives with.

Hardly a state secret, is it?
  • OK it's not a state secret! just seen people confused in store, or on other forums when they didn't get credited for smaller shops and thought I'd point it out.

  • Anything that isn't the headline is 'hidden away' or 'kept quiet' according to some people...I think they expect every shop that has offers on to personally knock on their door and explain any rules/exclusions to them!

If you want to maximise the benefit of any price matching promise you can separate out your shopping - one transaction for things that are cheapest in Morrisons, and a separate transaction for the things that are cheaper elsewhere. Simple.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

Let's not imagine that they would ever give shoppers what they want... it's about trying to redeem market share and therefore profits and nothing else.

No need to, every aspect of match and more has been attacked, defended and picked over on here.

They can't give the shoppers what they want. There are two groups, shoppers and shareholders. The shoppers want lower prices and the shareholders want bigger dividends.

The shareholders will always win because they hold the immediate power, while shoppers hole long term power.
