mortgage arrangement fee santander

I have had a mortgage with satander for 7 years, all of a sudden I get a bill for £250 which they say I agreed with when I took the mortgage out. Obviously I cannot remember this and find it hard to believe they can demand this money after 7 years. They're excuse is they have only just got the systems in place to collect the debt!
Can they take this money?

I will assume you are talking about the mortgage account fee and you have just redeemed your mortgage with Abbey/Santander? The fee should of been noted in the original KFI and is payable on final payment of the mortgage. Currently the MAF with Abbey is £225.I am a Mortgage Adviser

If the charge was never taken in error then you dont suddenly get a right to not pay that charge.
Can you imagine it the other way around if they had taken £250 too much and said they were not giving the difference back because it was 7 years ago? It works both ways.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I've had a similar letter. I've had a Santander mortgage for about 8 years and I have now been asked to pay the arrangement fee of £225. According to the letter its taken this long for them to get their systems in place??
I am wondering if they can enforce this as I cant remember if I have paid it or not and there's no way of me finding our after this length of time.0
