Suitable freezer for cellar?

I need a second freezer and the only place I could put it is in the cellar.
Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for because I understand that some freezers can cut out if the surrounding room temperature drops below a certain point.
The cellar floor is brick so Would I be correct in assuming the freezer would need to be raised off the floor.
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

Does the cellar really get that cold?
I've had a normal freezer in our cellar for the last 18 months, no problems. I find the temperature down there is really very consistent - it doesn't warm up much in summer, and doesn't cool down much in winter.
Ours in now on a tiled floor, but was stood on concrete for at least a year.
I think temperature only becomes a problem if it drops below the temp inside the freezer - understandably the freezer then gets confused as it's trying to warm up (which is isn't designed for!!) rather than cool down.
Check with the manufacturer to see what the recommended operating temperatures are, and then decide if the temperature is likely, realistically, to fall below that.No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
Its the first winter in this house so not sure how cold cellars get. I take your point that the temp is probably quite consistent.
After all people do keep wine in them::rotfl:
I'll do a bit more research.
I just wondered if anyone had experienced any problems. I did keep one in a garage and it was fine.
Thanks for the advice.
I might get one of those rubber mat thingies designed for garages To stand it on.0 -
When I was looking for a freezer to go in an outhouse I think it was most chest freezers were suitable (only found a few of the very cheap ones wouldn't work), the only front opening ones I could find were Beko, they seem to be the most common brand for working in colder temps0

I got a freezer for my outside building off of freecycle. It is always worth checking freecycle to see what people are giving away near to where you live.0

I have a Beko freezer for my garage. In the past I have managed with Zanussi etc. but have been caught out when the freezer just suddenly stopped working. This is a few years ago and the insurance did pay out but now they will only pay if you have a freezer designed to be used outside or in very cold environments. Beko's apparently have a different method of freezing which makes it more resilient. So I am told anyway!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Thanks Living proof this question has been asked B4, I believe Beko use a different refrigerant to others.
We bought Beko some 3 years ago, it's rated for outhouses etc, can be used down to -15.There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -
