O/S Daily Friday 21st November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks to be damp underfoot still.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.
Dinner last night was spag bol, seemed to cook quite nicely, flavour was good although once it was on the plates there seemed to be a bit too much liquid (not sure if this is because I didn’t drain the spag well enough or the bol sauce was too liquid-could be the latter as I did act extra passatta whilst it was cooking as it seemed to need it! Tonight will be something and chips – nothing very difficult.
Today I have the normal chores to do, shortly I’ll be heading into town to the bank, then food shopping – haven’t actually done a proper food shop in the SM for over 3 months – it’s going to feel a bit strange I think! If I can manage it I’m going to try to do some baking/cooking but want to get the bed stripped and re-made. I’m really pleased with how much I got done yesterday – completely cleared the dirty wash basket, all dried and ironed and given back to the relevant owners – just 1 load washed overnight which was all towels etc after everyone’s baths and showers last night – that will go in the TD this morning whilst I’m out. Also did a general tidy of several areas, both bathrooms cleaned and house generally cleaned – it’s certainly not perfect but a big improvement on where it was – so will now target various areas to deep clean.
I need to get organised for going away in the morning as we’ll have quite an early start – so no lie in for us tomorrow! Quite look forward to these events though, as meet loads of new people and it’s interesting to hear and see how other members run their centres etc.
Have a great Friday x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:
Happy Birthday Hester :bdaycake:I hope you're OK? I remember you saying you had a doctor's appointment but I can't remember what for?
Yesterday afternoon was lovely - food, chocolate, scented candles and Christmas filmsI did a bit of housework too, but I've been so tired lately that I've just been doing the essentials. Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon and can get stuck into things properly. I know how pathetic it all sounds – it's only part-time, it's not like it's taking all my time – but I can't believe how it's affected everything else. I DID know how I'd react to this work though, and I was promised I wouldn't have to do it. So, if I mention working for friends again, please yell at me and tell me NO
Thanks for the comments yesterday (I can't remember who said what, sorry), I'm much better at working on my own too. I've actually enjoyed being out and earning money, I just need to find something where I'm mostly on my own AND it needs to fit around my house/family stuff
I'm definitely not a people person. No people thank you

I bumped into my neighbour the other day and she told me she'd taken up crochet and had been practicing little leaves, flowers, etc. We're going to get together to compare cute thingsShe's very arty and can make all sorts of wonderful things out of almost anything but hasn't really done much since art college, apart from things for herself. Her kids are almost grown up now – the youngest is 16 – so she's started making items to sell. She knows someone who runs a pub, he has craft sales occasionally and she's started selling things there. She thinks my crochet will sell and is going to let me know when the next one is :T
We're going shopping this morning, there's a lot to get so it's not going to be cheap. We didn't go last week though, and I've run out of lots of things. Will need to remind myself of this when I get to the till and start reeling from the shock of the total being more than £80I fancy eating out but don't want to go for a proper lunch somewhere. We might get a takeaway and drive down to the river to eat it. I'm not sure what we're doing this afternoon, if it's not raining I might potter around the garden for a while.

Morning All
Happy Birthday Hester!
tru - the answer to your work quandry could be in your post. Your fantastic crochet and crafts can bring in an income, you can work mainly on your own and only have to see people now and then at craft fairs! You must feel very relieved to be stopping work on Monday, I think you have made the right decision.
Sorry, can't remember anything from yesterday, we had a terrible day at school, a colleague died yesterday morning (peacefully). We were only told on Monday that she was seriously ill and only had days/weeks.
The children were told just before they went home. Not looking forward to going in today.
DW and WM on, will do some housework when I get home, went to bed at 9 last night as still feeling grotty with this cold. Woke up at 4.30 so will be shattered by 9!
Spag bol for tea I think (if I remember to get the mince out of the freezer), last of the hm tomato soup for lunch, I will certainly make it again if I can remember what I did!
Hope you all have a good Friday. Take care. XX0 -
Good Morning All
Happy Birthday Hester
Been MIA last couple of days as little dog had her puppies - all 8 of them! The birth was straightforward and quite quick and mother and all babies are doing really well.:)
DD came home from Uni yesterday till Sunday to see the pups and today we are going to an outlet shopping centre for some Xmas shopping. DS will be at home with the pups and also waiting for a delivery I am expecting.
Have some leftover lamb which I will turn into lamb stew for OH & DS, DD and I will have hm veg soup.
(((Hugs))) if anyone needs one, and have a great day all.x0 -
Good morning everyone
Happy birthday Hester, hope you have a lovely day whatever you are up to!
It's a drizzly kind of day today but I am staying home (big surprise...not!) and looking after my lovely grandson while his mum works. I know I was worried about having the grandkids but it is working out really well and she has asked her friend to do the school run so I don't have to go out. I am going to snuggle up with him on the sofa and watch a disney film of his choice and hopefully get some knitting done. I am making yet another mermaid but she doesn't have a home as yet, I may release her into the wild.
I'm making chicken fajitas for tea with sour cream and tortilla chips, always a popular choice in this house and I will be tweaking it to make it a more weightwatcher friendly option. Speaking of which, I lost 2lb this week:T which I am very happy about. I would like to lose the same again next week if possible so I will carry on.
Well, I'd better shift my bottom and do a quick tidy round before my grandson arrives although once he gets his toys out you won't be able to see the carpet anyway. I wrapped up some presents in a glittery paper and now the whole of the downstairs is sparkly. It was lovely paper from Tesco but I won't be buying it again as the glitter was a bit much even for a confirmed magpie like myself.
Well, that's all from me today, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all
Happy birthday HH hope, you, have a lovely day x
Tru camelots idea is a good one :T
Well I'm back from my mums as I've had to go to the dentist , my brother is with her today , due to work I can't get back to her till Thursday its a 7 hour round trip so not easy just to pop round .We need to sort out where she is going to live. She can't stay where she is as she lives in rented accommodation in the middle of nowhere . They don't have mains gas and so she would have lug giant gas canisters and couple them up , she can't do that plus she's very vulnerable there. She has no money so it's something the family are pondering on . She can come and live with my brother who lives near me which would be ideal for us, but I want what's best for her and she loves the village where she lives and she has a strong friendship group there and I know she would like to stay . So I'm looking into a few things .
Need to pick the DDs up from uni today , they have been very upset so I will be glad for them to be home for a couple of days .
WM is on ,piggy and cat are fed and watered I'm just having a cuppa DH is still asleep , he has been fantastic and has done so much driving this last week :T
Hope everyone has a good day xxx0 -

Morning everyone.
On the run today. Just at the rail station waiting for my train to Edinburgh. I need the low level train as the meeting is at Edinburgh Park. After that I hope to get the tram into the city for a quick mooch around the Christmas market on Princes Street. Then back to Glasgow and the trek home.
My nearest neighbours are moving so we have arranged a wee drink or two tonight.
Sistercas, hope things work out for your mother.
Happy Friday everyone.0 -
