Asked to work but sent home when arrived.

Hi,
My contract says I am an " employee" and work for a county council. Today I was asked to work at 9.30am but when I arrived I was asked to wait a short while. Then told I was not needed so sent home- I came back later to do my usual hours 1.5 hours per day.
I have a contract for these 1.5 hours but nothing for this casual work- today i was asked to do extra " casual" work and after arriving was told I was not needed.

Is it possible to get any recompense for my time does anyone think? I am a bit green in this area so wondered if anyone has similar experience- either negative of positive.

Thank you and regards,
CC

Any reason you could not have just stayed and your normal work.
  • Well I could have stayed but there was a 2 1/2 hour wait. I usually work between 12 and 1.30pm -they asked me to come in early to cover people off/left. So I was asked to come in at 9.30am. Then sent me home.
When I went in for my usual hours people were furious as I was needed in the end but management is pretty dreadful.

Maybe ask for expenses eg petrol. If I did not work then I would not expect to be paid.

Extra work should be covered by your current contract.
