New debt company chasing already settled account

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me please? I had an egg credit card years ago which I defaulted on. The debt was brought by a debt company whose name I can't remember and I agreed to pay the settlement offer to close the account.
A few months ago, moor croft debt recovery wrote to me chasing the full amount. I advised them I had settled this account, but they obviously wanted proof - after scanning the last 6 years + of bank statements and paperwork, I have no proof. I spoke to my bank who explained that if it was paid over the phone with a debit card (which it was ) then it would appear on my statement as just an amount with no payee or reference meaning they couldn't trace this payment either. I told Moor croft I would not be making any payments unless they could prove the balance was still outstanding, they wrote to me saying they were no longer dealing with this account and not to contact them. I have today received a letter from another lender (Scotcall) who are now chasing the egg card balance
This debt is not showing on my credit report, I'm not sure if that means it is 6 years old already (as I thought it was 6 years this January 2015)
Can they do anything if I ignore them til I'm sure the 6 years is up? Or do I go through it all again knowing I have no proof of paying the settlement offer.
Please help!?! Any advise would be appreciated!
Thank you!!

Well, rinse and repeat really.
Write to them telling them that the account was settled years ago and unless they can prove otherwise, not to contact you again.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

This is the problem you get when you don't keep proof of a settled debt unfortunately.
Its always a wise bet to get any settlement in writing, so you have evidence, and you should keep this for at least 6 years.
Bit cheeky of Moorcrap to be chasing the full amount, but, despite what they may tell you, its up to them to prove you owe this money, not up to you to prove you don't.
To get rid of them, write back with the "provit" letter, explaining you have settled this debt, and its up to them to prove you haven't.
Mark your letter "COMPLAINT", and send to there compliance manager, if they still wont play ball, then report to the FOS.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Great, thank you both for your help! I know, I'm an idiot not keeping the paperwork, I wasn't aware of the 6 years thing and so thought I didn't need it after all this time. Won't be throwing anything away again that's for sure!
Thanks again :-)0
