Tooth implant on the NHS ???

Hi
My son got punched on Friday night (unprovoked) and has reported it to police etc. He lost his front tooth and our dentist has refered him to see if NHS will allow a tooth implant. Apparently often they will say no when there has been violence. My question is will they take his circumstances into account like he was the victim, no convictions etc as no details have been taken by the dentist. Does anyone know how this works please. Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to say it is extremely unlikely the nhs will fund an implant as normally congenitally multiple missing teeth (6 plus) , cancer patients , or gross trauma patients qualify for implants on the NHS.

There was a case recently of a nurse assaulted in hospital losing several teeth and the nhs wouldn't pay for implants.

Any criminal injuries compensation is likely only to be in the hundreds and an implant will cost around £2000. Check your son has no insurances that will cover the cost (most dental schemes have trauma insurance , some health schemes do as well.)

Has the person who assaulted him been charge?
If they have then once they have been found guilty , your son has a case to pursue the cost of his dental treatment.
Not sure if I am right but surely the gum would need to heal before an implant could take place?
First step would be a temporary denture , then maybe a bridge?
TBH I am not a dentist but I am sure something could be done via the NHS charges to at least make him look better until this is resolved?

Thankyou for your advise cavework. Police coming in morning. Person was not apprehended at the time of assault but will know more after speaking with police. You are correct about all the dental stuff. I think the implant is preferable as it's non evasive to his other teeth like a bridge. He will be having temp denture while his gum heals.
