Please can anyone help me?

I will now receive my state pension in 2020.

I have asked my local MP whether there is any provision made by the government to help those of us who have to wait 6+ years to receive a payment. My MP just waffles on about their being help from Job Centre, but this is not the case as I have not paid NHI Contributions for the last 2 years, as I have been a stay-at-home Grandmother. I have 36+years NHI contributions, under my belt, so will, eventually, be entitled to full state pension when it finally arrives.

I would love to hear of any success stories as to what help there is out there!

So you are being required to wait until your State Pension Age until you can get your state pension?

What, exactly, is wrong with that?

The changes to the state pension age for women were first drawn up in the 1990s, you have had plenty of time to prepare for this.

A "state at home grandmother" doesnt get any special treatment. Maybe you can get your son / daughter to fund you or look for work to fund the gap.

Where have you got 6+ years from?

The increase in the state pension is from 65 to 66 (and in time to 56 and then 68)

    Success about what?

The state pension age increase was put in place in 1995 under the Pensions Act 1995. Coverage of that and consultation took place for a number of years beforehand. So, this all this occurred 20 years ago.

You were working for around 18 of those 20 years. So, what did you do in that those 18 years to help fund your decision to stop working early?

Why should the taxpayer fund your decision to stop work early and why cant you use your own money?

Actually this is a fallacy. You do not need to have paid NI contributions to use the services of the Job Centre. I think that you will find them both approachable and helpful.

You have chosen to give up paid work before state pension age in order to care for grandchildren while your child/children work?

Or are you caring for somebody with a disability?

Don't get this thread at all! Why ever are you asking your MP about your pension? With 36 years NI you're as well placed as anyone.

Perhaps you could furnish us with a bit more information?

The post is similar to others we see every now and then on this site. Someone who took no interest in their retirement provision during their working life, thinks they can retire at 60 despite that not being the case for 20 odd years and then looks to blame someone else for that.
