Ok so tell me which lenders do not abuse the age restrictions in this way.
It's really not "abuse". They have a set of criteria which they choose to use, and it is their choice. You seem to be suggesting that it's wrong that they get to do this, but it's their money that you want, so their rules that matter.
As others have said, you need to look around. On the other hand, if a few hundred pounds a month makes that much of a difference to you, then maybe lenders are right to be cautious. You can't claim on the one hand that it's easily affordable, but on the other say that the cost is an issue.0
