in Credit cards
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for some advice on credit cards that offer 'rewards'. My job will soon be changing and I will have to pay for my own petrol costs and can claim mileage back, however I'm thinking it would be an idea to try and get a little extra.
I currently do not hold any credit cards and was looking for some advice or recommendations.
I will be spending around £100 a week. I have no idea what my credit rating will be but have never been in debt or missed any payments for bills.
Any advice welcome

Depends how good your credit history is as to what you can get accepted for. Having a Santander 123 Current Account and CC would be your best bet if you use it for all your expenditure. If you want to keep it completely separate, an AmEx card or BarclayCard Cashback/Freedom Rewards is your best shot.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0 -
Thank you for your replies.
I have already had a look at what is around but thank you for the link. I was keen to hear from peoples experience as to how likely acceptance for the card is? Any ideas as to which is easier to be accepted for?0 -
The CapitalOne Elite is probably the hardest, followed by AmEx then the rest are all fairly similar.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

Thank you again0 -
I have an older version of the Capital One card here

that I use for my work expenses. i think the one above is fee-free.
Something worth considering in conjunction with the credit card you choose is where you buy your fuel from. You might, for example, get a better reward if you used a Tesco Credit Card and also filled up at Tesco - don't know with this as I don't use Tesco.
I use Shell (local/cheapest) and I'm in the Driver's Club or whatever's it called. As with most schemes, this gives points related to the fuel you buy. Every quarter the points are converted to a £ voucher to spend on fuel, which we use for my wife's car. If you get a fixed p/mile return for business mileage, then it might be better to use the fuel voucher for business use, effectively lowering your business mileage rate per mile and increasing the profit per mile on the amount claimed.
Really is worth having a look at whats available on the rewards side so you can try and 'do a double' on your expensed spending.0 -
