Wednesday 19 November - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Ah I was impatient and must have started the thread the same time as you Ziggy! Any idea how to delete a thread?!

Yesterday I didn't achieve lots of things on my list
    So MUST to today!
    Today I have/will:-
    1. Check banks
    2. Lunch from home
    3. Fill water bottle up at work
    4. Earn SBs - didn't do yesterday
    5. Earn more on OnePoll - didn't do yesterday
    6. Sort out washing on airer - wasn't dry last night
    7. Decide whether to cancel mobile phone insurance - must make a decision on this but I'm hindered in that I don't know where the paperwork is even if I wanted to cancel! MUST MAKE A DECISION!
    8. Wrap xmas present - didn't do yesterday
    9. Buy Malteasers as part of mum's xmas present and then I can wrap hers
    10. Decide what to get everyone else!
    11. Unsubscribe from emails especially shopping ones - although have been deleting them without opening!
    12. Collect parcel for OH
    13. Charge phone in the evening rather than leave it on overnight

Must get moving - determined to be more productive today!

  • Morning (just!)

Had a bit of a sad day yesterday. Several people in my life struggling and unhappy which is not nice to see.

On the plus side, today I have implemented two new strategies at work which have been positively received and this makes me feel happy.

    The mse list:

    • B/L/D from stores. Snore.
    • Check online banking
    • Charge phone in work
    • Check OH unplugged charger
    • Bit of housework when I get home
Nothing to report here really, just a normal boring work day!

    Have a good one all

    Morning all,
Well, a routine sort of day here for me. My list is pretty much as it usually is, as lots of money saving habits ingrained in my (once very spendy) psyche now:
*Saved a little bit of energy by sharing bath tub, letting hair dry naturally, keeping downstairs heating off until 5pm, running washer & heated airer overnight on Economy 7 tariff.
*Washed hair with some samples of stuff I received in a magazine....I didn't even buy the magazine, as it was one I had given to me.
*Took soup out of the freezer for tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Rather cheekily left a 'Figleaves' 20% off voucher code right where
mr f would fall over it in case it might be useful for any festive gift he might like to buy for his best woman :-)
*Cast on knitting, pulled it out, cast it on again......tiny needles can only knit this pattern in daylight sitting near window, so am not progressing very well. 2 projects on the go at the moment, the other is a gift, so will swap over to that once it gets dark.
*A gift I ordered from L'Occitaine arrived today.....I know they are not a cheap company, but I just wanted to flag up that the free gift I got (the code may have been NOEL14, I can't quite remember for certain & I don't know when it expires) is defo nice enough to give as a gift. It's an attractive cloth make-up bag containing travel sizes of one of their hand creams, a shower cream, a perfume, moisturiser & shea soap plus the 2 sachets of freebie product that you can choose every time you place an order. I'm keeping mine, but it would make a great gift or the mini products could be split to make classy Christmas crackers. (Am not trying to encourage anyone into bad ways.....just that if anyone has that kind of a gift to buy, the additional gift could be useful).
*Rubber pork lives on........the pork shoulder I cooked in cider on Sunday has done 3 days of dinners already & will tonight do it's 4th & final one.....chinese stir-fried rice with pork, chillies & all sorts of other bits & pieces. It's done 2 lunches too, so that was £9 well spent. If this had been one of those very tight months, I could have stretched it to 5 days.
*Holding out against cat doing very sad face & sitting in tragic heap because he hasn't had any new meat this morning. He has some left in his bowl & as soon as he's made even an attempt to show willing & eat it, I have promised to open a new pouch.
*Did some surveys. Lots of Onepolls around at this time of year, it seems. My total's gone up a few quid this week already & it's only Weds. mr f has a problem with one of his Toluna rewards & has emailed them. He has been awarded a John Lewis voucher code for £25 which doesn't work. He is only actually due a £10 one, & they have always sent paper vouchers in the past, so he is trying to ensure that their error does not result in him not being paid for all the surveys he's done.
*Phone which was mended with aspirin packet (see yesterday!) still working! Will give it to the end of the week, then cancel insurance claim process I started.
Feel quite stylish today.....got to laugh really. Am wearing 2 charity shop items, some high heeled boots I've had for about 8 years & a top from Sainsbury's which cost £8. Yet I think I look better than when I was chucking money (well, the bank's money....) at clothes on a regular basis because I now choose much more carefully.
Dull grey day, but am pretty cheerful on the whole.
    f xx

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy. No lists from you this week? Hope you are ok.

Ummm Stilton Cheeese, now Im hungry.....what a great user name :) What is Terramundi out of interest?

Carrie - sorry you are feeling a bit sad. It is hard seeing people you love struggle. Am glad the work thing sort of made up (a bit?) though.

    Twiggy
-You need to give yourself a break, your use of the furious icon for not wrapping a christmas present made me giggle though :)

Lilmiss -do you know what your daughter would most like for her birthday? I hope this doesnt sound lame but could you maybe create an amazing at home spa day for her & her closest friends? You could do that on the cheap but it would give her lovely memories of you & her friends. Just a thought.

Foxgloves - Well done again on fixing your phone with such an innovative method. Thats ace :)

Amara -We have just moved from BT to Supernet. so much cheaper. Worth a look?

Well today I have been helping out at the new coffee shop again, it is aiming to open Friday & nothing is ready yet! I spent hours cleaning today.
I had a very cheap day, spent 0.18p in Sainsburys as I already had Nectar points to spend. So our dinner tonight is practically free.
I found 23p today. I found 3 seperate 5ps, why would you throw a 5p away?? & several pennies. I used these in the supermarket self service till to get my bill down (prior to the final 18p payment)
    Walked everywhere.
My new temporary boss treated me to a coffee.
Still no heating on at home.
Let my little boy open another 3 of his presents, we've been going since sunday this way, last ones for doing tommorow. I kept the card envelopes for shopping lists & carefully folded up the gorgeous wrapping paper & squirrelled it away for reuse.
Have been joining in over on the Frugal living challenge thread. Will be spending some time before the end of the year working on a Zero spend budget as now I undertstand it, it really appeals to me.
Froze some chicken stew to avoid wastage.

Hope your conference is going well Maria & where is DawnW today? She never misses...

    Night all.
    Bob

    Here I am Bob :)
Long day babysitting again today, so correspondingly short list for me:
All HM meals from stores (in fact leftovers, as I am shattered and cba to cook :o)
I did put a pie filling in the slow cooker this morning before I left though, to use up some items in the fridge. I will make the pie tomorrow.
Heating on only in the bathroom, loft conversion and airing cupboard. Woodburner is on downstairs though so it is lovely and cosy :)
OH did a small shop and HOPEFULLY  stuck to the list.
I will use the hot water from the kettles on top of the woodburner to do the washing up in a minute, and make a cuppa :)
An early night is called for I think - and a good long list for tomorrow!

Hope everyone has had a nice day :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Evening all,

Not a great day for me today - having ongoing car issues, which are getting me vexed and keeping me busy with phone calls.:mad::mad: Anyway, I plan to make a complaint so watch this space!

    I have:
Checked my bank - no changes :T
Shopped to a list in Lidl - I'm very pleased with my giant 49p washing up liquid and my 49p whitening toothpaste :D
Still on track for £300 left over this month to throw at the overdraft. So proud!
Avoided the lure of takeaway despite being starving when I got home :j
    All meals from stores

Been thinking about Christmas and all the events and presents coming up. I'm looking forward to tracking it all so I know realistically how much I need to save for next year, though I'm doing the £1 a day sealed pot challenge for Christmas 2015, so hopefully £365 will go a long way!
