Remortgaging with CO-OP

I'm currently remortgaging with COOP.
Two things have made me a little nervous. First they only want to deal with queries over the phone not in branch. Second I want to make a lump payment and they've suggested I write a cheque and post it off. My concern is that mortgages are hundreds of thousands of pounds, I should be able to deal with someone I can see face to face especially if I want to hand over a significant sum for a lump payment. Is this all standard practice these days and I should just get used to dealing with them over the phone or does something seem not quite right here and I should go somewhere else?
Many Thanks

We used the Coop and had no problems.
They will have a call centre for mortgages and local branches.0 -
I used to work for co-op mortgages... in the call centre.
They got rid of their branch based mortgage advisors, they can then monitor all of the advice given out.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Cool thanks for the replies, I guess doing everything over the phone is just a sign of the times that I should get used to
Thanks
