Tuesday 18 November - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Had a lovely start to the day. Dishwasher and washing and tumble all done on cheap rate. Yippee.
Now am off tomorrow to to conference and not back til sat. so will have lots of nsd in a row. Am going to spend the quiet nights in the hotel writing detailed lists for xmas and food. I will probably have lists of lists.
Off to work to try to get a new account. fingers crossed.0 -
Hi everyone, thought I'd join in the daily updates as I'm knuckling down to some serious money-saving now. It'll keep me motivated and hopefully give me lots of ideas
More of a big DFW thing; yesterday I cancelled my car insurance and took out a new policy. I changed my address with my current provider when I moved house from a rural village to a town and the monthly payments nearly doubled.
6 months later and I've finally got round to getting a cheaper, and better deal. Taking cashback (tracked) into account and the breakdown cover included (normally £30ish a year) It works out a saving of £340 a year. Angry with myself that I was throwing that sort of money away
Paid on my 0% credit card so I can pay this of as I want without actually having to pay the premium for paying monthly.
Also sold some bits on Facebook for £5 which the woman picked up yesterday, and added some books to webuybooks for £6.17. Just waiting on the postage label to get those sent off.
Today I plan to:- Go over my S.O.A. again
- Do my online banking
- Think of a Christmas present for mum
- Lunch from home
- Research some cheap meals
- Get some more stuff sold on Facebook

Hello all,
At work, got a lift, packed lunches done for all (only one frozen soup portion left - need to get cooking), evening meal will be from plan.
Have checked bank accounts, all as expected.
Got back home to a phone message from energy company yesterday - have sent yet another photograph of the meter (third time lucky?). This one said he has spoken to our previous supplier (this is a step forward) and hopes to sort out the issue within two days. I am counting.
Later will walk dogs (really battling with the mud at the moment - and my wellies are leaky).
Son2 enjoyed his first day at work. He won't get paid until 19th December but the company have offered to give him an interim payment. That will be helpful!
Best wishes x0 -
Hello all
For me today:
Babysitting this morning
Afterwards I went to the temple of consumerism that is our local garden centre at this time of the year. It is a nightmare of grottos, blaring pop music and acres covered with additional temp buildings and filled with plastic and flashing lights  I only went to get some straw for the chickens from their pet section as remarkably, it is the cheapest place round here to get it.
Meals from stores
NSD
Short list today
Same tomorrow as I will be babysitting all day.
Hope everyone is having a nice day. The weather here at least has been lovely0 -
Hello Tuesday Savers,
Today's frugal activity:
*Spent most of this morning finalising Christmas gift list. Wrote a list of everything we still need to buy. Apart from a couple of things, most items are now quite inexpensive, so it's really paid off having a 'Presents Pig' & buying things to pop away all year.
*Checked off receipts against new bank statement which arrived today.
*Did some surveys. Up to £28-85 again on Onepoll. Am going to check in twice a day for a while to try & get it to £40 cash-in before Christmas, as that would be a useful addition to the Bathroom Fund.
*Saved a bit of energy through my usual methods: Shared bath tub, did laundry overnight on Economy 7 tariff & reloaded for another cheap wash tonight. Switched heated airer off at Midday....it'll go back on tonight to benefit from Economy 7.
*Rubber pork....ongoing. Ingredients prepped to make pork & sweetcorn hash tonight, just got to crush the potatoes up.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Filled little plastic boxes with value sultanas & dried apricots as this is a much cheaper way of providing healthy dried fruit snacks than buying those tiny little ready-filled cardboard boxes. (Teensy plastic boxes are 99p a pack in the 99p Shop & you get lots in a pack).
*All free leisure activity today: Knitting, watching recorded TV prog ('The Missing'...& I'll admit that Detective Foxgloves isn't making much progress with solving the mystery!), blogging & playing with cat.....or rather splitting up fights instigated by cat :-/
*And some good news about my mobile phone. Last night I was pretty much resigned to buying a new one, when mr f took it off into the kitchen with the laptop & using instructions he found on Youtube, he managed to get it working using an aspirin packet! When he asked me for a packet of aspirins to sort my phone out, I was baffled....it was a bit more bloody knackered than a headache, I think it was to use the sharp edge of the blister pack. Anyway, phone powered up, all my texts flooded in & I no longer felt like a phoneless pariah. Apparently it should be fine now......as long as I don't let the battery drain down to zero. Definitely pence saved!
CLF - Meant to say yesterday, good to hear your partner has a new job. I like a good covers band....esp rock covers.
DawnW - I know what you mean about the tat at some garden centres at this time of year. Mum & I have a competition each year to see which of us can find the most horrible tree decoration. Mum holds the all-time record for finding small pink plastic toilets with a bit of glitter on for hanging on the tree!! Tasteful or what?!
Cheers,

Hi all
I'm on a mission to pay £818.50 off a credit card before the 1st January so this is a good motivating thread!
1. Worked from home = no fuel expenditure
2. Ate lunch at home = no spend
3. Rang Halifax and changed the date for my direct debit on my credit card so it's after pay day
4. Started a new craft item which I intend to sell
5. I did a balance transfer on Sunday so I updated the sticker in my purse which tells me how much I owe on each card
I still want to add something onto ebay, eat tea at home and make it a total no-spend day! I'll also need to prepare my lunch for tomorrow as working from the office.0 -
Hi All
I thought I'd already posted today, how could I forget!
Stuff & ting that I've been up to.
1) Finding pennies, of course (there is a bench that someone has stuck a pound onto for a joke in our town centre, I came along thinking oooooo, of course it was stuck, made me laugh though. Son is now talking about returning with a chisel, who could have put that idea in his headToday I found 4p.
2. Went to Sainsburys for essentials, the end of the November GC is in sight & Im in credit! Whoop. Anyway. Whilst I was there I used a triple nectar points coupon, & a 120 nectar points for a £3 toy spend voucher. I also found 2 reciepts totalling 84 points & added them on when I arrived. As I paid I took the one I found for 54 points & added them on too. All helps.
3. I met a friend this morning for coffee & used my free loyalty points to pay.
4. Have used up the last of the roast chicken from sundays mega party batch cook for tonights tea.
5. Walked a lot, saved around £4 on buses.
6. Havent been at home all day so no electricity on.
7. Sent a chase email to insurance to ask where my money is zzzzzzzzz
8. Checked banking.
9. will wrap a christmas present tonight using the brand new barbie christmas present paper I found outside someones house a few months ago (still in its bag the lot)
10. Worked a paid hour to be added to my bill
