Gold plated jewellery.

Is there any way to stop gold plating wearing off?

  • Unfortunately - not really.

    But you can minimize the damage by taking it off to wash or sleep in and not spraying perfume or hair products on or around it.

    Those are the same rules for silver as the sulfur and alcohol can cause it to tarnish and turn black.

    If you've got some real cheap and cheerful costume jewellery you can always try painting it with clear nail varnish to keep the colour but I wouldn't advise doing that on gold plated as it's still not cheap.
