Balloon launch at a wedding

Options
My partner would really like a balloon launch at our wedding. He wants little cards printed to put on them which say that they were launched at the wedding of me and him and our return address to see if anyone replies. Has anyone got experience of this? Is it possible and are there any companies that do it?

Sure, doing a balloon release like that is no problem at all. Though I'm now in Australia, when I was in England I ran a company focused on balloons, and I'm a Certified Balloon Artist (yes, odd, but there is a qualification in it.)

I'd suggest you visit https://www.qualatex.com, they have a section called "find a pro", it's basically a listing of everyone qualified in balloons in your area. I'd suggest you get a few quotes from people who know what they're doing, since they can vary dramatically.

For a release of 300 balloons each with race tags I would have charged between 300-400 quid depending on location and ease of release.

Be aware that with any balloon release, a reputable company will have to check with the local council and also with air traffic control (sounds stupid, but always better to be safe).

The balloon company will be able to arrange the printing of the cards (there are a few wholesalers that can arrange this for them), they tend to be biodegradable too.

I don't wish to be a killjoy but have you considered an alternative that doesn't have such an affect on marine animals?

I've googled to find somewhere in the UK you can get them from but haven't come up with anything yet...I'll post back here if I find anything.

Our school did one as a fundraiser. On the day of the launch, there was quite a strong wind and all the balloons blew towards the North Sea. We never got a single card sent back to school, so we assume they were all lost at sea :(

Not sure where you are getting married, but something to consider if the wedding is local to your home.
Here I go again on my own....

funny this thread should come up - our family run business is a balloon shop, we do displays like this alot. I didn't catch where you was from, but if you called up our shop, 01623 659999, we do the delivery and set up for you etc at a good price. Obviously this would be no good if you live a million miles away!

Best of wishes for the wedding

Um, please before you go ahead consider the environmental impact a balloon release can have...

    Agreed. Please consider the environment.
  • Umm, can I just ask you to consider the environment too? I know it's a nice idea to celebrate - how about planting a tree instead, that way you can watch it grow?
