The stakeholder cap applies to stakeholders only. Not personal pensions and SIPPs. Stakeholders are niche product nowadays with most going PPP or SIPP.

What's it like living in the land of stating the obvious?

    From the original post
My situation is that I have an Aviva Stakeholder Pension set up by my previous employer's financial advisor......

.....It isn't clear to me if I am indirectly paying commission to the original advisor - either from Aviva or the funds that are in the plan.

Why on earth do you think I would post about stakeholder charges if it wasn't in response to a question about stakeholder charges.

What kind of idiots are moderating this forum - I posted a link to The Pension Regulator's site detailing the rules around management charges and the post was deleted.

I expect it was deleted because you appear to have an attitude problem. Aggression, rudeness, boorishness and mild abuse are not welcome.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

If you care to read the post more you will see that OP is looking at SIPPs. You will also see that the OP later clarified that he was not in the Aviva stakeholder pension but the Aviva personal pension.

If you are going to be rude and aggressive in your responses, I suggest you get your information correct and build some credibility first otherwise people will get the wrong idea about you. Or perhaps the right idea.

"boorish" is spot on. Would "loutish" fit too?

I apologise for the misunderstanding about your point, I didn't see the clarification by OP.

My original post that was deleted was in response to the stakeholder charges question and I don't think that someone should moderate a pensions board and not understand that a link to the Pension Regulator's site isn't spam.

    Gents,

Sorry to give cause for confusion. To clarify, I am now looking to compare a SIPP against my current personal pension that is not being actively contributed to.

e.g. Aviva Designer Personal Pension against AJ Bell - Youinvest.

My total pot is approx. £200K.
Currently holding funds by these companies below:
Schroder, M&G, Henderson, Newton, Blackrock, Threadneedle, & Allianz - not the Aviva internal funds.

I am interested in accessing a wider set of investment funds/trusts.

Youinvest seems to be £100/year + 0.2% of total + dealing charges (infrequent) - I don't know if I have missed something...

I'm not sure what I'm paying now, and if I am at a disadvantage with the Aviva scheme with regard to fees.

Obviously, I can get access to a greater set of investment opportunities with a SIPP. But that isn't the only consideration about switching. It also has to make clear financial sense regarding the fees incurred to switch & run.

Sorry for the confusion, and thanks for the feedback so far.

You missed the fund charges which would be on top of this and potential dealing charges. Also, check their menu of misc charges to see if any of those apply to you.

Have a look at this thread, it's got some useful links including to Snowman's spreadsheet (comparison of SIPP charges), Comparefundplatforms, and to Cavendish who also do personal pensions inc Aviva.

SIPPs can be good value, they can also be expensive, it depends how you use it and what you invest in. Also, as with almost anything you buy, it is possible to haggle down charges. Plenty of people on here have done this with HL, and with trackers at 0.06% OCF a SIPP could be much cheaper than the headline charges would imply. With £200k you'd likely get a discount if you ask.
