Its my parents 40th in September, we're paying for them to have lunch on the Orient Express. Its pretty pricey but if there are others you could chip in with its something a bit different0

Buy them a shelterbox ?? Or a part of one.
If they have everything they need perhaps they'd be happy helping others.0 -
I'm sure that the 40th anniversary is RUBY. I don't know how much you want to spend. Are they into gardening? I bought a large red standard rose for my inlaws a few years ago . It cost about £25 and is a nice feature in the garden.0

Hello redballoon
Thanks for the good suggestions and I hope you get some more in the 'Special Occasions & Celebrations' board. I'll move your thread across.
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

I gave my parents a token (a really nice one) stating they could choose theatre tickets for a show of their choice (I gave them 12 months to use it!)
They chose the show and I paid! Everyone was happy. Also did a lovely cake and flowers etc.

Hiya
What about a lovely rosebush - I have used these before and everyone is always really pleased CLICK or Ruby wedding roses CLICK.
A wine tasting evening.
A balloon ride.
You could copy this idea - A Ruby Red wine hamper CLICK
Tickets to the races. I did this for my Grandads 70th birthday - He was really chuffed. I don't know if this is anywhere near you but they have a ladies day Aug 31st - looks fun CLICK.
Or how about a professional family photo? You could phone around local wedding photographers and see of they can do a special rate - on maybe a week day when they are quiet.
Here are a few websites I love for presents too

Hope that helps x

I thik the rose bush idea is great. I will use that, I actually bought my parents a tree and the whole family made a time capsule to put under it.0

I have used country garden roses three times now. They have been great everytime x
I love the idea of a time capsule - What a fab idea.

Hi All - Has anyone ordered a potted rose? Can anyone tell me what it looks like when it comes? Is it a pretty pot or just a basic one? Just one rose head??
Sorry I'd love to get one for my Grandparents Ruby wedding but want to make sure it's nice first! lolDream of being mortgage free....

Hiya
Do you mean the countrygardenroses site?
The pot is pretty basic but the rose bush it quite tall - maybe a metre from root to tip ( thats my rough guess) and the ones I have seen have had lots of flowering roses ( I suppose this may depend on the time of year).
