Do I need to send a SAR?

Hello
Im trying to help my husband reclaim PPI.
The thing is he has no info on anything whatsoever!
He knows which companies he has had finance with, but doesn't know account numbers, loan amounts, repayments etc.
Do we need to start with a SAR or can we just write to each company asking for the info? If we include in the letters his previous addresses DOB etc to assist with the enquiry? Or could he just call up and ask?
Many Thanks in advance

You can phone them up and ask if they had PPI. Or you can spend £10 with each company and do a dsar.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Many people mistrust the call centres and prefer SAR letters because the banks are legally obliged to comply with these requests.
However, £10 per lender can prove expensive-especially if it transpires no PPI was charged.
