Hi there,
About 2 months ago, I received a MH letter, stupidly telephoned and was told that it was for a debt from 1996 (that I am sure I paid off as part of a now completed consolidation loan, but that's by the by).
It was the ususl photocopied affair, I decided to find out about them, found the site and sent off the template letter - Problem solved!!
NOT!!!
Today I received a letter addressed to me, but in the third person stating that it was looking for me in respect of an important matter (I know others have had the same type).
I am quite confused at what they are playing at now - They have received a (registered) letter from me, so they know I am here, so where are they coming from with this.
Any help / ideas appreciated.
Thanks for reading.

What was the date of your last contact? was this 1996 or did you have correspondence since?
If it was more than 6 years ago, ignore them as the debt is statute barred.
You have sent your statute barred letter (I assume this is the letter you mention?) but it doesn't stop them chasing you for the debt. If you choose not to pay, they can't take it further as its legally unenforcable. They will give up eventually if this is the case.
Do you have proof of your repayment? I suspect they are pushing their luck because neither the lender, nor you, are likely to have proof of a payment made via consolidation over 6 years ago.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

MH are a bunch of morons. I am currently having dealings with them for a debt. I have asked them for the CCA and they havent replied other than to send a short settlement figure.
I have ignored that and sent them the 30 day letter now. So see what happens then. i tried calling them too. that doesn't help at all you cant have a conversation when you are being spoken at and over.
I wonder where they get their staff and what sort of training they get ( if any)
Added to that they cant compile letters and obviously don't get them proof read either.

Phew - glad I'm in safe company - just received a letter from mh trying to trace me. As curious as I am I phoned and was asked to confirm my details - which I did for the address they sent the letter to (now a bit worried about doing this but that's just me) but was asked to confirm if I lived at a previous address - I denied - they gave me a wrong address to confirm and I asked what it was about. They refused to tell me. I then checked me credit report and though and behold - there is an entry for a mobile phone company that states a debt (more below) ends on, you guessed it next week. This debt was actually due to identity theft and my bank has acknowledge an error had been made and reimbursed all incorrect monies.
My question, what do I do?
I now have mh searching for someone to pay the debt, they have my address so will they now try and recoup losses through me, even though I can prove to them the debt is not mine?
Should I have to prove it was identify theft to them? Which I can but am reluctant to enter ionto any correspondance for fear of future reprisals.
Why is a phone company selling their debt to mh even though they know it was set up falsley under my name and the banks have acknowledge an error in the direct debit system?
I am now very paronoid - worried and starting to get stressed about an issue I resolved about 6 years ago. I comforted by the fact that debts are 6 years statuted barred but I still have 7 days to go before the six years is up - and it's not even my debt but still, I'm worried!'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632
