Wow! What an entrepreneur your dd is!!!! Good for her for her endeavours on designing a website to advertise her services, she'll go far in life with her attitude and enthusiasm.

Shame about the job front though :( Around here, teens can get jobs delivering newspapers, working in cafe's during busy seasonal times and you'd be amazed how many happily sit on Boot Fair stalls of a weekend (mind you, parents take them, drop off the pasting table and goods, leave the teens, then return to collect them and any profits! Not my way of doing things - I'd have to stay LOL )

Could she use her web designing to set up websites for local (small) businesses?
Could *you* do a Boot Fair? (you might even find a bike while you're selling)
If people don't want a babysitter, are there any old people who would like errands run? Pets walking? Ironing done? Lawn mowing?

I've been in your single parent/kids situation so I know how hard it is. :(:(

Great idea but I dont think she would be up to that standard yet, she uses a freeweb page site but it could be a possibility to fall back on the future if she feels she wants to go in that direction. She wants to be a chef so everything revolves around food instead of pc`s at the moment ;) As for the bootsale, we have no car , would be a laugh watching us trying to carry our worldy goods and a pasting board down the road, lol. She also tried the dogwalking/car washing thing and was asked if she had liability insurance incase anything happened to the pets, my god things get so complicated these days, insurance? She only wanted an extra couple of pounds  The suggestion of making cakes etc came up but because we live smack bang in the middle of inner city London there is very little "community Spirit" and no village hall to sell them at! I think time is the only answer to this problem as in the time to get some money together to get another bike and the time when she can get a Saturday Job. I really feel for her because its not like she hasn`t made the effort and she is at the age where she would like to be able to buy herself girly bits and pieces that we simply cannot afford at present. Oh well, paitence is a virtue! Thanks Queenie :T

You could alway's write to the council & companies involved. I would point them in the direction of this thread, upon reading this they may chip in together & help to cover the cost of a replacement. They will see what an expensive loss this is to you and would also score them potential brownie points if it were to make the news. ;)

She could sell stuff on ebay if you set an account up.
My daughter recently thought she would sell one of her 'unwanted' reference books as she had seen them going on amazon for £40 but after she had a look through it, she decided, actually it was much more interesting than she had thought :D
Havent read the rest of this thread but do tell the police her bike was stolen. They do recover bikes sometimes and have no way of knowing who they belong to.
  • Firstly if you haven't already, report it to the police. Was it security stamped with a postcode or did it have any distinctive, unremoveable markings?
The bike is gone, but it's worth looking out for when out and about. Whilst checking the small ads for a new one, check for hers as well. You will need the distinctive marksings / stamps to back it up.

I really don't think you'll get anywhere when it comes to claiming anything back. It's the good old 'it wasn't me' game of tennis - everyones batting the blame to each other!
No insurance company would pay out as it was left unsecured with the door open. It's like leaving the car door open with the keys in the ignition.

As suggested write some letters to the relevant people explaining that your daughter helped pay for this out of her birthday money. Maybe someone nice will read it and help you out.

With communal hallways it's always best to secure anything. No matter how well you know your neighbours, you just don't know who's coming in and out fo that door!

Good luck and I hope your daughter has some success.
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]

If you find an abandoned bike - report it to the Police. They will collect it and if it is not claimed within about a month it can become your property!
