Just gone into my local PetsatHome store to buy a new tag for my cat and they wanted over £7 just for an engraved brass disc! Anyone know of a cheaper place or get one?

    I was just about to post that I got mine on ebay for under £2. It good quality and cheap - would recommend people try ebay before paying loads in pet shops.

  • If anyone is still reading this, then thought I'd let you know I got a pet ID tag from http://www.bestpetcollars.com recently and I'm thrilled with it. For about the price of a cheap brass one with shallow 'scratched' engraving at Pets At Home, I got a lovely chunky dog tag with deep engraving on both sides which I am led to believe will outlive the cheapo brass ones by years! So it makes the tags work out really really cheap by avoid repeat buying and buying... oh and delivery was free too!! It arrived in a couple of days from memory, so I really would recommend them for anyone interested.... ;)

    its only cheap if your dog does not lose the disc! We double tag our dogs for this reason, one with home number one with mobile number.

    They are also all chipped and tatooed - just to be on the safe side!

    If you have a QS Discount near you the dog tags are £1.99 with engraving.

    But dog tags can be lost or removed. It's important to get your dog microchipped too, it's often free if you're on benefits or about £10 on special offer at the vet's from time to time.

    Totally agree. I think you cant be too careful these days, especially if you paid a lot of money for your pet, they're hot property if get in wrong hands!

    In my opninion, best bet for making sure your pet can be reunited with you if lost is to;

    1. Get it microchipped
    2. Get pet disc, with deep engraving (partially sited or older people often struggle to read these cheapo 'scratch engraved' tags!)
    3. Get engraved on the pet tag that the pet is microchipped! eg "I am microchipped" or "microchipped please scan me".
    4. Ensure disc is attached with QUALITY SPLIT RING to collar. These are almost impossible to come off!! It's the cheaper quality rings that just bend and come loose that are a WASTE of money!
    5. Get your phone number and name embroidered onto the collar! There's loads of cheap collars with embroidery available online, but they are "cheap" as opposed to good value/quality from what I've seen. You can get tactile webbing collars (very soft on your pets coat/skin) with free embroidery - I have one and it's been through the was lots of times, is good as new, and has very very strong side release plastic buckle thingy. I love it and I know if the dog tag ever came off, then my phone number and name are still easily seen on the collar itself.

    (tactile webbing collars with free custom embroidery are available from https://www.bestpetcollars.com too! I bought mine together with the ID tag from same place, and they arrived in less than a week!).
