My gym doesn't have coin-operated lockers, but they do require a padlock - is this the case with your son's gym?

    Water bottle.

Does he drink protein shakes? Maybe a few sachets/tubs?
  • If he does protein shakes then you can get a cup with a whisk in that you shake so the mix mixes, if that makes sense, a kind of hand blender.
    Sport Socks
  • Weightlifting chalk for his hands. There are various types but my sons use liquid chalk which they say is good.
  • Workout cd? Even if he as an ipod he can upload a cd onto it.

I am female so possibly a slightly different slant but my gym essentials are:

    weight lifting gloves
hand towel (for using whilst I'm going round the gym)
decent trainer socks (I love a brand called Body Glove from TK Maxx)
    Sports bottle

I also added buttons and elastic loops to my bath sheets so that I could fasten them around me when walking from the shower back to the bench in the changing room and keep my hands free.

I see a lot of people with flip flops to wear in the shower.

You can also get little balls to put in your trainers which are supposed to keep them smelling nice.

Wash bag for in his gym bag (I just use a plastic DW Sports draw string bag)

I'm also a huge huge fan of Under Armour. It's not always the cheapest but very good quality and I always feel good when I train in it.
