Building society credit search

Just checked my credit report and it shows a credit search from a building society, 3 days ago, which I knew nothing about. I suspect it may have been done by my broker, can brokers do this without prior consent? I do understand the reasons for doing it as it was looking a bit grim with the FMA put in elsewhere but surely this should have been discussed with me first.... Also I do not know the outcome of it!

The broker should have requested permission to run that search (if indeed they did I so) at some point.

We do not know what your broker's processes are; we never run a score without checking with the borrower first.

Ask your broker why this has happened?

As above, we cant just do a credit search without your permission.

Who was the building society? Some lenders do soft footprints which will have no material impact on future credit searches.

  • I am going to ask him about it as I thought that. It is Skipton. If it were a soft search would it show on my file though to me?
