Nationwide mortgage application delays

Hi,

I have applied for a Nationwide mortgage through a broker. The full mortgage application was made about 3 weeks ago and valuation came back ok.

Since then, every 2-3 days they have requested extra documents one at the time, followed by periods of silence.

I’ve been pestering the broker almost daily as I didn’t wait another weekend, and it looks like the application went into a black hole with no visibility into why its delayed.

What are people’s experience with them ?

What can I do more to speed things up ?

Can I call them directly ? (I don’t want to step on the broker’s toes, as they have been ok with me.)

  • Currently I have been getting mortgage offers out in 5-7 working days. Nationwide can be a little funny with employment references and proofs of deposit.
I would ask your broker for an explanation as to why documents are being sent one at a time, if they are requesting documents that are connected to the previous query then it would help if you could say which documents are being requested.
Nationwide list all documents required at DIP stage, it could be that the case was referred to a senior underwriter but I have not had delays like you are experiencing.
Pointless speaking to them directly, speak to your broker and ask.

    Good luck

Typically, Nationwide requests latest month's bank statement and latest month's payslip only.

The requirements are visible on the screen after submitting for DIP and are on the certificate print.

If you are being asked for additional documents, then more on an ad-hoc basis, it's because of something to do with your case.

As jta said, our Nationwide cases normally go from application to offer in a few days with the longest wait for the valuation to be booked, done and returned.

Just be careful of very specific requirements. If they request proof of deposit, you have to evidence at least thirty days transactions for the account in question. Gifted deposit has to be done on a pre-printed form etc.

I used a broker when buying a property through Nationwide and often
i would ring them direct and there was never any problems. I would suggest you do the same and be proactive.
  • I applied via nationwide three weeks ago too and the first I've heard of anything happening is the valuation has been booked for this week.
My application went for audit which caused the delay.

Yes, another day with no progress(or update for that matter) for me.

I am running out of options soon, I am chasing the broker with no result, I am considering now switching the lender as I am under pressure from the EA.

What numbers can we use to call Nationwide for broker mortgages ?

Are they swamped by any chance due to their products being competitively priced in the last few weeks ?

I have also considered using their twitter account(@asknationwide), does that work ?

    Hi,

Completed with Nationwide 2 weeks ago, and my thoughts are:

    - Nationwide are an ok lender, but with anything but straightforward cases can take their time and their underwriters seem very thorough(or fussy, depending on which side you are looking).

    - My broker was invaluable, being a contractor, I would be dead in the water without their relationships and expertise. I really think they do provide huge value and work very hard for the fee they get from the lender.

    - My broker was free, but for the amount of work they have done for me, I would have paid them a fee.

    Good luck !

being a contractor is straight forward for most lenders, have you been a contractor before yes how long and do you have a current contract and how long. Its all very simple really all lenders just have different criteria i would say if nationwide dealt with you it was pretty easy
