Hi ScottMark
Welcome to the boards
Try some of the mortgage comparison sites such as moneyextra, charcol and bradford&bingley. Also try the mortgage section (see left hand navigation bar) - Martin has some great help and advice there. There is also a specific 'Mortgage' forum within this chatboard which offers great advice.
From our point of view we recently remortgaged with the Nationwide who were offering very competitive rates ... not the lowest but not far enough away to make us want to move. We thought long and hard about whether to go for a fixed rate or a tracker ... in the end we went for a tracker hooping that the interest rate does not go too high .... NOBODY knows what is going to happen so you pays your money and yu takes your chance.
It might also be useful to know what area of NI you live in so that people can maybe recommend a broker close to you. In the past we have used 'The Mortgage Shop' who were quite good ... but ALWAYS do your homework by reasearching on the web first.

We went through London and Country and got a reasonable rate with Alliance and Leicester (4.6% for 2 years). However I've since found out that we will be charged something like £300 if we want to move our mortgage from A&L after the tie-in period ends. There were other hidden costs which meant that we probably haven't saved much money by switching from our old lender.
Make sure you know all of the costs involved - it's about more than the arrangement fee and the interest rate!Stercus accidit0 -
