Friday 14th November - what small DFW things will you do today?

Hi Friday Folk,
Busy day today.......finished my list now, though. mr f on his way home & all I've got to do is heat up some curry I batch-cooked earlier in the week & remember to listen out for the Sainsbury's van.
Today's frugal activities:
*Got my hair almost dry before finishing with dryer.
*No heating on downstairs until 6pm.
*Baked bread rolls & apple buns. Made stuffing & poached some chicken from freezer. Festive family picnic tomorrow as we always meet up at a local stately home for a Christmas Craft & Food Fair. I thought I'd squander 80p on a jar of cranberry sauce & give my picnic a festive theme but otherwise limit myself to ingredients I'd already got in stock.
*Put the Present Pig cash in my purse in case I see any good gift ideas while we're there.
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products.
*Split a handsoap between two bottles rather than buy a new one. it can go on the list next week.
*Cut down a hand cream bottle to get the last bit out & am using the last of my foundation by scooping it out with a coffee stirrer. I'm always surprised by how much product is left inside these bottles & tubes. We've paid to use it, not chuck it in the bin!
*Did a couple of projects for online forums I'm on at the moment & collected the code for my latest £5 Amazon voucher from one of them.
*Emailed some friends to arrange Christmas get togethers.....as I always say, being very organised DEFINITELY saves us money, as food, gifts & whatever can be planned in advance & budgeted for.
*Did mid-month reconciliation of November's budget as couldn't do it yesterday as planned (Laptop got a*sey) We have a much smaller cushion this month than I'd like, but to be fair, we've been on holiday & in the old days, we'd have come back with a hefty additional wodge of debt on our overdrafts & credit cards. We should finish the month on budget if I haven't overlooked anything. Hope so, anyway.
*Wrapped a couple of gifts using free paper. (More gifts to give to the family members I'm seeing tomorrow for them to deliver rather than me paying postage).
*Will carry on trying to fathom out a really cryptic knitting pattern later & watch 'Gogglebox'. Busy day tomorrow keeping me mother in order..........
Have a nice evening everyone,

Sorry to hear bubs is ill, poor thing. Well done on your ebay sale!:TBob and Lilmiss - you're encouraging me to think of more creative ways to be debt free!
My lists are always dull, but they seem to be working!
Aww your lists arent dull. Yeah come & scuzz it up with me & Lilmiss, we are on the extreme cheapskate table, probably drinking a bottle of half started wine we nicked off someone elses table (that they'd abandoned of course)
It is my considered opinion that grated will get you more stinge for your buck.Hi everyone
QUESTION - I quite often have cheese sandwiches at work but what uses less cheese - grated or sliced?Hi Dawn W and Bob,
Our farm dog always accompanied me and he will miss his trip to the dinasaurs each day.(I know, but he is a dog, if he thought they were chickens he would have eaten them, so he has always thought they were dinasaurs!)

Maria. Is it really a farm, or do you secretly own Jurassic Park? I had my suspicions about you...will be keeping a close eye now.solvencyseeker wrote: »As for roadkill, my son used to have a job clearing up the town centre early on a Sunday morning - he regularly used to find fivers and whole pocket fulls of change that had fallen onto the pavement. Good evening all, sounds like everyone has quite an eventful couple of days. Hope it settles down for all for the weekend!
My little list for today:
All meals from stores - had HM soup for lunch while my colleagues ate the best smelling chips ever!
Posted 2 more items sold - I wish everyone would pay at the same time and I didn't have to make multiple trips.
Apart from the postage, which I don't count as it's not coming out of my pocket, it's been a NSD. Yeah, I think that's my 3rd this week.
Heating is on, but I'll be turning it off as soon as I've finished this list.
Checked my noodle report
Checked bank - all OK (wish it was a better though!)
Will check BB and PCL later
A quiet night planned, will probably end up putting a film on. No glass of wine (or two or three) though. OH hopefully will finish the wallpapering tonight, so we just need the new radiator and laminate floor laying and we're good to go.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.SPC # 348 2014-£169.07/2015 - £156.89

Hi All
Sounds like it has been a good day all round for not spending. I have managed to have my picnic lunch (free) in work, had belly pork in honey/lemon/soy sauce marinade for tea. Was yummy.
Still no central heating on, but a bit of a disaster, DH paid today about £300 to have system serviced because it is getting cold, now if it had been on he could not have done this. Ho Hum.0 -
Ouch, I have sore fingers from cleaning silver plate, brass and copper, and dried out hands from washing glassware! Hope some of it sells after all that. I took the glassware down to my sales unit this afternoon and will take the metal stuff tomorrow morning. I had to bring some things back to fit it all in. I shall definitely not be buying any more stock till after Christmas as I have loads in. I looked through it all, pulling out things like meat plates and nice tableware and glasses, and anything that looks a bit Christmassy. Exhausted now from hauling boxes about and crawling around in the loft and garage! And the lounge looks as though burglars have been dividing up their spoils, with sparkly serving dishes, napkin rings and candlesticks scattered everywhere
Sorry about your chickens Maria
I haven't lost any to the fox since we have lived here, but did now and then when we lived on the farm. I only have 2, and they are pets, though they do earn their keep by laying eggs. They also eat vegetable waste from the garden like gone to seed lettuces etc, and waste from the kitchen such as outside cabbage leaves and the odd bread crust, so good recyclers too! I agree, they are dinosaurs - all birds are descended from them, but chickens really have the look, don't they? My dog is wary of them, but they are almost as big as she is :rotfl: Hopefully you will have better luck when you replace yours in the spring.
Bath and bed soon for me I think!0 -
good idea, bath for me too. then off to bed. I have had to stay up late as I have had a red cabbage and grated apple on the stove simmering in a test for xmas, hope to eat tomorrow with Roast pork.
bath it is

Same here, it was either that or make about a 6 mile round trip to Li*l. Feels like its been a spendy day but all planned stuff.
Today I have:
Returned something I bought off the internet as I found something similar in a local shop.
Kept the heating off - and a big jumper on - all day.
Eaten up some leftovers out of the freezer for tea.
Oh and did some work on my second job - more to do over the weekend I think.
Maria - hope things are calmer for you. And Twiggy, grated I think?
Off to get jim jams on and put the electric blanket on for a bit, then find my library book. Making myself sound ancient there!!0 -
Maria3104- I love making braised red cabbage & find it freezes brilliantly for Christmas. I use Delia's recipe & I used to cook it in a low oven like she does, but then I tried it in the slow cooker & always use that now. We've been inundated with apples from our old tree this year, so will probably be making another batch of this to freeze before long. You're right, it does go fab with pork......have just bought a pork shoulder for that very purpose! Enjoy!
