Why should I pay off my debt?

After my business went bust last year am sitting with a 83k debt.
Question (moral objections aside):
Why should I pay it even if I can? after all after 6 years my credit score is clear and am 83k better off? where is the downside apart from not being able to obtain credit for 6 years? what am I missing?
I've started a company abroad that does surprisingly well and I can repay my debts but am wondering whether its worth it.
