Is there a shop in NI which specialises in selling spices and other ingredients that go into Indian food.
I know of one store in South Belfast which specialises in Asian food but it is Chinese food as far as I can see. Has anybody come across a store which specialise in Indian food?

There's one on the Grosvenor Road at the end of the row of shops just before the Royal Hospital on the opposite side of the road - I think it's specialises in specifically Indian food and ingredients.
*edited* sorry, think it may have closed recently actually as I went to look up the address and it seems to be a Spar now.
However, I've always been able to get all the ingredients I need for Indian cookery (and Thai, Japanese etc) in Asia on the Ormeau Rd/Agincourt Avenue.0 -
There are literally dozens of Indian food shops all over Belfast. They are usually called Mr. Spice or something like that. They don't look much from the outside, but are usually packed with different spices, beans and lentils etc.
I cook quite a bit of Indian food, the only thing I have difficulty finding locally are fenugreek leaves and beetroot powder.0 -

Actually fenugreek is the spice/herb that I am specifically looking for and cannot get it.0 -

Yep, you can get the powder (ground seed) easily enough in the supermarket. The leaves are tricky.
By the way, the leaves and powder isn’t the same thing at all.
Better going to the Indian supermarket. Much cheaper.0 -
There is a more indian focused shop on the Ormeau Road (Bangla Bazar), right beside McConveys cycles around the corner from the Asia supermarket.
If you can't get what you are looking for in the Asia Supermarket, it is worth talking to the owners and they may be able to order it in for you.0 -
I was in Tescos last night and I found fenugreek powder among the Schwartz spices. I have looked several times in Tescos before for this spice, but could not find it. It was in the orange top bottles in the curry section. It could be a new into stock or maybe I just have not looked hard enough for it the other times. Its annoying that I do not know which!
When I got home from the shop, I tasted a little dab of the spice. I now realise what was missing from my Indian cooking - it definitely has the taste of Indian restaurant food.
I will still try out those Asian shops that everybody have mentioned the next time I am in Belfast. Maybe they will have the fenugreek leaves.0 -
