My experience of going Bankrupt in Bournemouth
conspiracy
Well thanks to all the help and advice I’ve had from other members here I’ve decided to bite the bullet and go bankrupt.
This is a right up of my experiences tailored to people in Bournemouth.
The procedure is pretty much the same countrywide but when I was thinking about it I wanted info from people who had done it where I lived to put my mind at rest and ease some of the nerves by knowing what to expect. Anyway I’m waffling now so lets get to it.
At Bournemouth you don’t need an appointment but its is recommended that you visit the court first thing (08.30)
You will only need your fee (currently £485) and the forms which you can fill out online at www.insolvency.gov.uk
Once at the court you will go into a side room where a member of staff will check your forms give you another quick form to fill out that takes less than a minute and swear an affidavit. Then you will go to the counter and pay the fee.
What happens next is you will asked to return to the court at 11am and wait in case the judge wants to see you. Please bear in mind you may have to wait a couple of hours but you MUST be there from 11am. In most case’s you won’t go in front of the judge yourself as he or she will make a ruling by just seeing the paperwork but if they want to clarify anything then you need to be prepared to go in front of them (don’t worry it’s a relaxed affair as your not a criminal!!)
In my case I waited for about 40mins and then a member of staff called out my name, gave me a copy of the paperwork and that was it! I was now bankrupt.
Now that the judge has made you bankrupt it is in force straight away. If your being chased or hassled by any of your creditors you just tell them that you are bankrupt give them the case no. and the address of the Official Receiver as they are now responsible for your financial affairs.
So what happens next?? Well you will be contacted by the OR in the next couple of days to arrange an interview. This will normally be done on the phone and take about 20mins. If your case is complex then the interview may take longer or you may be asked to attend an interview in person.
Well that was my first step to being debt free! :j Once I have had my OR interview I will post again with a review with how that went so stay tuned!!!
Cheers
Paul.
