Annualised hours contract

Hi there. I have been offered an annualised hours contract at work. I currently work the normal 9-5 35 hour week throughout the year. My line of work is very seasonal (personal tax) so from February through to the summer we are dead and then for the later part of the year we are manic, and I often have to work overtime anyway (unpaid.)

The new contract would mean that I work 50 hours per week for 8 months of the year and then I get 4 whole months off from Feb-June. (I would still have my usual holidays to take on top of this.)

I am intrigued by the prospect of this but not sure how it would work in practice. How would I cope working such long days and what would I do with my 4 months off? (I am married but don't have any children yet.)

I am booking a meeting with my boss to discuss further but just wanted opinions from anyone who has a similar working pattern. Maybe you can point out any pros/cons I may not have thought of. All opinions welcome. Thanks for your help!

    Check the hours holidays.
    Feb-March is 17weeks
    35@50 1750
    52@35 1820

Negotiation on overtime during the work period and the 4months off.

Make sure you understand your availability requirements in the off time.

Make sure you don't have exclusive clauses so you can work elsewhere.

But if it is the hours worked which are calculated on an annual basis, the OP wouldn't actually work 52 weeks. If they had minimum statutory leave they would work 46.4 weeks. They also wouldn't necessarily be working 35 weeks under the new proposal as holidays would still need to come off that (as I read the OP, at least some of the entitlement would fall into that period - eg bank holidays and probably other leave too).

The op said the working weeks include the holidays.

based on that the total hours(worked+holidays) is the way to do it to do like for like in the year.

    The OP wrote,

    8 months + 4 months + usual holidays

I guess the OP knows what they mean and I'm not understanding but they'll be able to take your suggestion on board to ensure they are actually not working more paid hours than they are currently. (However that unpaid overtime at the busy times is interesting.)

If they get the 4 months off then the only time time to take the holiday is in the 8 months.

If that is not the case then different calculations will be needed and to do those we need a better description of the proposal.
