We're still experimenting with the heating in our new house. The rads all have individual controls, which means we can keep our bedroom freezing and A's quite warm (makes for a quieter night!) but it seems, no matter what we do, the lounge stays around 21-22deg which is just too warm for our comfort. I can see us opening windows if we can't get this sussed!

My lounge is 13.5 degrees at the moment! Only me in and I'm sat under a duvet with my laptop warming me up so no need for it to be any warmer. We generally keep it around 17 degrees or 19 if guests are around. 21 degrees would be stifling for us but I'm from a family of warm people. :D

  • 15 degrees which it has been all day. Too chilly for me!
  • 15.2 deg which is an improvement on the 13.9 it was first thing this morning. The cat is looking at the woodburner in a meaningful way but I won't light it above 15c. I do have a nice snuggly blanket. :)

My living room temperature is currently at 16 degrees with the heating off. I will go down as far as 14 degrees in the day time but sitting around at night, 14 degrees would be too cold and I would start to get aching joints.

Like the OP I have Raynauds but find it is mainly sudden temperature drops that bother me the most and have always had it. Since the OP is a Lupus sufferer, I would guess that the OP has Secondary Raynauds bought on by Lupus. I would have thought 17 degrees would be on the lower end of the scale that would be OK for the OP.
  • Today my lounge feels cold, but my thermometer says its a snug 20c. So it's probably just me being cold.
My thermostat is set to 15/16c but I'm not convinced it's accurate as it clicks on at around 18c.
I'm doing my best to only use the heating sparingly and keep the thermostat at 15/16. We don't pay for our heating as the accommodation is provided by work, but it won't be too far in the future (hopefully) that we will be renting and I don't want a huge shock to the system when we have to put extra layers on rather than have the heating on.
  • I find my lounge feels coldest around 3pm to 5pm - irrespective of what the thermometer says, so I pop the heating on for a short while if I'm in and sitting.

I've been busy this evening, heating is on "auto" to 18 degrees but radiators are cold and I'm wearing a vest top as I was too warm.

I don't think the actual temperature and my personal temperature have much in common!

Luckily the flat warms up quickly so I generally just switch the heating on as I need it.
  • Our lounge is quite icy during most of the day for two reasons:

    1) It's a long room with 3 outside walls (i.e. going across the end of the building), and is therefore colder than the rest of our flat.

    2) We only have the heating on from 09:00-10:30 and 18:00-20:30.

Most of the time, if I have to be in here during the day, I use a tiny oil radiator and wear a sensible number of clothes, often including my fluffy dressing gown.

  • My thermostat is usually set to 20-21 degrees. Any less and I am freezing. I am a chilly person though. I will gave layers on, hubby will be wearing a top and pants. The kids don't seem to feel the cold like me either, particularly my 4 yo daughter who usually refuses a cardigan. In our last house, where our interest only mortgage was half the price of this rent, our thermo was usually set to about 25. And that was a smaller, newer house. This one is a draughty old Victorian house with high ceilings. The living and dining room have been knocked through into one large room, the stairs go up out of it too. The extension with the kitchen and bathroom has no radiator in it, back door is draughty. I seem to have a draught radar, I can tell with my back turned if the door to the kitchen has been left open!

I've had to acclimatise myself to a lower temp, and put layers and slippers on me and the kids, I'm actually quite glad of it, and when we move to a smaller, easier to heat house, I will keep up either the thermo being 21 and wearing layers.

I could only do 15-18 degrees like some of you if I didn't have to be up doing stuff and could cocoon myself in a blanket. Bear in mind though I have to sleep with my 16.5 tog duvet up to my chin, and sleep under the duvet even in sumner :rotfl:
