Hi Everyone,

I want to buy my partner a Hornby train set this Christmas and am trying to get the best deal. Anyone know of any good ones at the moment or any likely decent ones upcoming in the run up to Christmas?

Lovely things, BUT....
Is it to be a permanent fixed feature (needs a base/board). You can't really put it together like a scalextric. What sort of size/expense are you looking at ? It would get extremely boting looking at 1 train, 1 carriage, going round a 3 foot circle. Part of the whole thing is the buildng of scenery, trees, stations, etc (starting to talk big already). My Dad did a large layout (and large expense) for me. I did it for my son. Even 25 years ago these engine cost £40-50. I got fed up with it, so did my son.
Nice idea, but it needs scale and expense, ,not just the initial small set up.

I have built model railways all my life. Just buy the best set you can afford. If he is keen he will enlarge it and build it at his leisure and grow a fantastic hobby. Good luck.
