Arrangement fees on mortgages

I was called today and told I could claim back my arrangement fee plus 15 years worth of interest from my bank, Is this a real thing?
I'm dubious because the company wanted my card details and £995 up front..any help out there please

For what reason would you be able to claim it back?

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole, anyone who asks for money upfront is usually a scammer.

No. its advance fee fraud. a known scam reported often on this site. There is nothing wrong with arrangement fees (or adding them to the mortgage)

And that is the advance fee in advance fee fraud.

They give you what sounds like a reasonably plausible thing to complain about if you dont think too hard. Hit you with some made up figure of money you can get back. The weak minded will be so focused on their greed for that large figure, they will pay the small advance fee up front.

If you ever watched Hustle, you will know it well as most episodes used variations of advance fee fraud.

There was a thread last week based on a similar with an upfront fee requested.

You would be very unwise to make such a payment.

It is shame the regulator is jumping all over lenders but no-one seems to be able to do anything about these con artists.
