Santander phone interview

We had a MIP accepted so we put in the full application but got a call a couple of days later saying they can offer us the mortgage but less than we asked for which was no good to us. She admitted we can clearly afford it so she had to speak to her boss who said no we can't have it so we decided to appeal which they were fine with and have taken us to the next stage of the application process which is now a 90 min phone interview, has anyone else experienced this and what was it about? i don't understand as this didn't happen last time,it went to the underwriters but this time it's a phone interview.

  • I think the phone interview is standard practice for Santander. We have applied with them and got told at the beginning to expect one.

Best to stick to your existing thread. As forum readers won't know what's been said before that may be pertinent to the situation.
  • Yeah it is, it just confused me as this didn't happen last time

The phone interview sounds painful. Do update us on how it goes.

  • I mentioned this on one of my previous threads and someone replied saying that for them it was 4 hours when they had to cut it short! I have no idea what they could ask for that amount of time ...
