Don't let your nephew have a pay monthly phone. PAYG only.

Thanks it's the same advice I give on the mobiles forum. We always buy handset in full and sim free. We use giffgaff PAYG. Im very against pay monthly and contracts mobiles since I've been a regular reader on here. I'm trying to understand why a contract phone is not paid by direct debit and why OP can forget about it so that I can teach nephew more again about these type of issues. I'm definitely going to teach him to always review the cra's to avoid this kind of stuff and nip anything in the bud.
I think OP made a few assumptions and wasn't around to check things were actually finalised, closed and finished. Easily done if not aware of how things work with these mobile phone companies.
OP did O2 register a default ? Perhaps a different broker can help ias sometimes they know who will accept these kind of things.
  • Both 3 mobile and 02 put defaults on my file for £300 each, now I'm guessing I'm going to have to wait a yer before any high street lender will even consider giving me a mortgage despite my 10% deposit and the house value only being 52k.

I've contacted all the local mortgage advisors in ni to see if any can help an not one has got back to me.

There are lending sources that will ignore telecoms issues but your situation is complicated by geography and property value.
