If I Wait Until New Year How Much Could I Save

Granted this is a bit like asking 'how long is a piece of string,' it's just a guesstamate I'm after. Here's the lowdown

I'm in the early stages of building a new kitchen. I'm not under pressure as I still have use of my current one. I'll need two, possibly three new electrical appliances for them.

1. Double built in oven. I'm looking at the Bosch HBM56B551B. John Lewis sells it at £1069
2. A hob. Nef T40B30X2 induction hob. John Lewis sells this at £399 but they have an offer on at the moment £50 trade in & claim FREE saucepans via redemption - offer ends 17 Dec
3. If I get a good enough bargin I may also be in the market for a new upright fridge freezer to replace my old one

I use John Lewis for demonstration purposes only. There is no JL where I live.

How much could I reasonably expect to save if I hold off buying the gear until the New Year? As I indicated I'm not pressed for time. Or is price cutting that regular now that's New Year sales and the likes are really nothing to write home about?

As a matter of interest I do like to shop local rather than with the big multinationals if the trader will come anywhere near a JL or Curry's price and if I am prepared to buy three items from him then I'm sure he'll cut his margin

  • As you say it's difficult to judge this but there are always sales after Christmas in the big stores.

I don't know if posting the enquiry on the DIY or shopping boards might give you a better response? People who are doing up properties are generally alert to the kind of savings that can be made.

I moved house in March/April and missed my chance at many bargains.

January seems to be the big sale month.

If you are settled on a specific model, then you might not save anything. Sales and special offers are often, but not always, getting rid of the prior year(s) models.

There are cheaper prices out there, i.e. the oven http://pricespy.co.uk/product.php?p=1221820&o=inkfrakt

Extended warranty is often included via JL, and they do price match, so might be a case of some negotiation, especially if more than one item involved, i.e. no delivery costs.

With a big name like Bosch, then the quality is the same wherever you buy from.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?
  • Bosch HBM56B551B a little cheaper at boots £1044 ( think JL price match). Im not sure what the best advice is but if you are buying multiple purchases and you see the gear you want at independant stores its always a good deal to negotiate for multiple purchases.

I managed to get a food processor free from a family electrical place near me by negotiating a deal on fge freezer and freezer don't be scared to approach management and ask.

Also I would keep your eye out for sales weekends etc in the run up to xmas and calculate how much cashback you might get through quidco or topcashback to see what gets you the best deal.

    Good luck with it all

Will I still get instant notification?
