Need to buy my 14 year old some straighteners for Christmas, she's always used mine up till now. I know GHD's are highly rated, would you recommend those or are there better ones? She has very long, very thick and course hair, if that helps.

I have found Cloud 9s to be better than GHDs. They cost about £100 and don't need as much heat as GHDs to get a good result (although you can still get the high heat, I just don't need to use it).0

My daughter has the GHD IV straighteners and she highly recommends them .
They are easy to use and straighten her hair pretty quickly too .
I bought them for her last Christmas when they had a discount code on .
After I received the confirmation email they sent me another code for 10% off anything else from their site so i bought her the carry case and heat mat, so worth looking out for any codes .And in the middle of the flood I felt my worth
When you held onto me like I was your little life raft
Please know that you were mine as well
Drops of water hit the ground like God's own tears
And spread out into shapes like
Salad bowls and basins and buckets for bailing out the flood0 -
i have hair that sounds like your daughters, mine is also really curly and I am using GHDs. I have had mine about 14 ish years I think, my sister brought them back for me from a hairdressing product exhibition in Birmingham for me.
the reviews for the Cloud9 mentioned above are also good though. I think the being able to decrease the heat is a good thing although I think I would have to have it on hot for my hair anyway, if you are near a Sally's hair product shop they often have them on display so you could go and have a look a them, different weights and feel of products suit different people0 -
thanks all, will take a look at prices etc“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I have used GHDs for years but was very impressed with the cloud 9 straightners used on my hair at the hairdressers earlier this ear. So much so that I went and bought myself some.
They come with a pouch and heat proof mat and the ability to adjust the temperature is a real bonus. If you need a high heat on certain areas you can ramp up hte heat but still use a lower heat on other areas, which helps reduce damage.0 -
Corolliss is the best straightner i have found so far..it has a long blades so works best on long hair, also you can define your curls with that too..!0

I use of GHDs for my super thick, long hair. I second that Cloud 9 are very good too, my hairdresser uses them on my hair. Either of these would be best - HQ hair are currently doing 10% off both these brands.0

My son's a hair stylist and he always rated GHD's.
The man who "invented" GHD's sold the company to Jemella but the "agreement" has now expired and he has now brought out Cloud 9's.
Son isn't here at the moment to confirm but I'm pretty sure the above is what he said.
They have Cloud 9's where he works and he says they are better now than GHD's as GHD's are now made cheaper.
I've had a set of GHD IV for about 2 or 3 years and I am pleased with them and I have got really curly hair.0 -
I bought GHD from Amazon last xmas for myself. After using them for a month i got my old cheap pair of straighteners out as they were better. Then in April time i decided to call Amazon and told them how bad the GHD were and was only calling to moan and they said they could offer me my money back or a new pair. I knew i should have asked for Cloud 9 but my mouth said another pair of GHD And they are not as bad as pair i bought at Xmas but not as good as my old pair of GHD
Cloud 9 is the original guy who designed GHD and sold GHD and now makes Cloud 9. Oh just to add when i was packing up GHD to send back to Amazon the printed lettering on the GHD had rubbed off so fakes, thats why they were rubbish.0 -
Surely Amazon dont sell fake GHD's? Im just worried my daughter wont have heard of Cloud 9 and therefore think they arent as good.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
