Where do you buy your 'alternative' foods?

Not sure if 'alternative' is the right word


I mean things like Chia seeds, Coconut or Almond flour, nuts and seeds, coconut flakes, things like that.


Holland & Barratt is very expensive and I am wondering if there is somewhere else I can buy it from (not in bulk though) that is cheaper?

I buy chia seeds off Ebay as find them cheaper on there

Nuts I buy at either the Indian Grocer or buy nuts and seeds at Lidl. Coconut flour I have had from the Indian Grocer as it was cheap, almond flour i buy ground almonds at Lidl. I dont buy coconut flakes so cant help you there but I do buy grated frozen co!!!! at the Indian shop, not sure if they have dried flakes of coconut have seen desicated coconut but never really looked if you see what I mean
Indian grocer is abot 14 miles away so I only go there about once a month when I combine it wiht other trips, rest of the time I use Lidl stuff if I run out

I also buy ground linseed mixes at Lidl and their Turkish yoghurt is the nicest yoghurt I have ever tasted in the UK.

I shop around, sometimes Ebay or Amazon, sometimes the ethnic shelves in the big supermarket. I do watch out for the H and B penny sale weeks to buy certain things.

I don't have an Ethnic shop here, but I do have a Lidl, so I'll look in there for seeds. Hadn't thought of eBay for chia seeds, could you PM me the seller that you use please happy35?

My local Asda recently had some 'alternative' stuff in - chia seeds, nut butters, quinoa etc. It was the kinds of brands that I usually have to get from Goodness Direct. They weren't massively cheap, but it was better than having to order online.

I shop American cos it is often cheaper ( even with the postage) at iherb.com
And you / I can earn referral commission :beer: .
KEEP goods order (Not inc P&P) under £15 otherwise you are STUNG at UK customs for Vat etc etc. I use $8 postage option cos it IS quick.
Subtract postage from total and google for UK pounds : example

Otherwise I use, check for yourself of course, :

Health Monthly .

I also use iherb although more for supplements than food (though did get some lovely rice crackers) - many supplements are much cheaper (even allowing for p&p). Have ordered with them for many years and never had a problem.

Grandadsmith - the last link you gave for 'Health Monthly' doesn't work for me.

If, like me, you don't have an Asian grocer nearby, Tesco Asian range - Aasani range can be cheaper. I get my almonds and cashews there - back to £6.50/750g now, though have been on special offer at £5.

Tesco also have 3 for 2 on a number of their freefrom/health range at the moment, so that could also be an option.

I tend to stock up whenever Holland & Barrett has a sale. My local Sainsbury's stocks quite a lot of organic products including some nuts. Ocado has a wide variety of things too including Slendier organic konjac 'pasta' and 'rice'.
