Old building society passbook

I just found an old passbook from the Anglia building society with £4 in it - big deal! But then someone told me that there was a fund set up to hold unclaimed "windfall" payments and I may be ehtitled to claim some dough. Does anyone know if this is true or is my mate winding me up?

Anglia merged with Nationwide. If you take the book to Nationwide, they'll be able to either give you the £4 back or open another account if you want to remain a member.

You wouldn't be entitled to a windfall, as they are only payable to people with over £100 in the account. I'm not sure what was paid when Nationwide merged with Anglia.
Here I go again on my own....
