Santander Nightmare

Hi,

Anyone else had problems with santander? We had a MIP accepted so we put in the full application monday and got a call thursday saying they can offer us the mortgage but 3k less than we asked for so we said thats fine, the girl did whatever she needed to do on the computer for her to then say 2mins later after offering us 3k less that it's now 30k less which is absoulutly useless to us. She admitted we can clearly afford it so she had to speak to her boss who said no we can't have it. Im gutted and totally appalled by this. We have a a current account with them and a mortgage already with them and they treated us like this. We are trying to appeal but still waiting to hear, tried calling back friday they were closed and again today (saturday) there still closed, so got to wait till monday. We should be moving in 2 weeks and this has ruined our chances of our dream house. Is there any advise from anyone on what we can do? try a broker maybe?

Thanks

Try this and see what is affordable;-

    https://www.santanderforintermediaries.co.uk/calculators/affordability.aspx

then you'll know if it's an affordability issue, or due to credit score if the calculator is higher than you require.

If you already had an agreement in principle, is there something visible on your bank statements you didn't disclose at AIP stage?

BTW rules have changed this year, so whatever went before counts for nothing. Moving in two weeks but only applied for your mortgage on Monday? Really?

We didn't apply till monday due to the fact we had applied elsewhere and gave up after waiting too long. They said we can afford it they only problem they could see was that my partner had one week of no overtime at work in the 4 yrs, that was due to the fact we had house viewings so he wasn't able to stay on at work like he would normally.

If you want variable earnings counted, they have to be visible on every payslip in the last three months. If there's a blank, they won't include it in affordability.

I suggest speaking to a broker if you haven't already.

Her opinion counts for nothing unfortunately. Affordability is subjective. A lenders view will differ to that of borrowers.

I suspect that she simply misread the figure off the screen.

Ask friends and relatives for a recommendation. Failing that try https://www.unbiased.co.uk, switching off the sponsored ads only option so you get a full list.

I requested X amount, they said no, you will need another 10K, so i got this in place, then they came back and said the new offer was 60% of the original one, i am supposed to move in 2 weeks also, so having a nightmare with them also, did you get anything resolved?
