Can you move abroad with uk debt?

Afternoon

I would be grateful for some advice!

Is one allowed to move abroad with debt in the UK?

I am obviously planning to continue to pay my debts, but wondered whether this is an option at all?

Many thanks and have a great weekend everyone!

    Hi,
unless we have been invaded by North Korea, "one" is still able to come and go from these shores regardless of who, or how much, "one" may owe money to, unless "one" has travel restrictions imposed by a court, that is !!!!

I hope "one" finds this information informative !!!! :D

Ha ha, sorry, trying to inject a little humour :rotfl:!!

There's nothing stopping you leaving the country, but if you have large amount's of debt you can be traced Europe wide, and to most other countries, however making you pay would be another matter entirely.

Red Ed is not in power yet so the communist state is not here yet, or Nigel Farage preventing the free movement of people across the E.U.

Best get out whilst you still can before the debt Stasi catch up with you- be careful, they have spies and informers every where!
  • Just to be clear I'm not planning to leave the debt behind, I was just keen to understand whether the banks would have problem with not being a resident even though I would continue to pay on a monthly basis.

And is there a difference between moving within Europe or outside?

I know sourcrates and it is much appreciated :-)

They would not be aware of where in the world you are unless you tell them.
Lets just say a debt collector may attempt to contact you anywhere if you were traceable, ie, working.
Obviously 3rd world or middle eastern countries do not always have the infrastructure or ability to be able to do this.

Red Ed is not planning to have an in/out vote on the EU. 'Dodgy' Dave is.

So, the threat is from Farage's UKIP AND the Tories (both of whom want to have an in/out vote on the EU).

Anyway, you can move anywhere on the world (yes, that is correct. We live ON the earth, not IN the earth) and still pay your debts. Money transfers are not just limited to the country of residence.
The only thing to remember is that with exchange rates, you may well end up paying more than the debt.

Hi, it's not usually a problem. I kept my UK bank account open and just transferred money back to pay off my credit card and student loan. No problems at all.

Since when has Nigel Farage or UKIP been advocating restricting free movement of people across the UK? Across Europe yes, especially from Eastern Europe, but the UK no!
