How is it strange? Do you not believe that you are good at your job?

I don't believe that I'm good at my job, I know that I'm good at my job.

In fact, I reckon I'm the best there's ever been. XxX

Putting your paranoia to one side for a moment, could you bring yourself to think that your employer might be using you as the benchmark?

    Didn't you read this?

This is one of those posts where everyone is wrong if they don't follow your belief that you are being victimised.

In reality it sounds like you haven't actually asked the reason behind the fitting of the tracker, it could simply be that as others have suggested its being trialled. It could also be that you are being singled out, maybe there is more to this story you aren't saying and your management have decided to catch you in the act with the use of a tracker. Who knows

Legally, if its your van i.e you own it then they can't fit it without your permission. If its their van they can fit it quite happily WITHOUT your permission and can you tell you what ever reason they like.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

I believe the company can easily point to security of their assets, anti-theft, vehicle husbandry and deployment - long before they give a hoot about what you might be doing in it.

It makes sense to me to trial a tracker in the best or one of the best employee's vans. This gives them an idea of how long it should take to do jobs and how they should be completed. They then install trackers in the under performing employee's vans and compare the two.

The alternative would be to trial it in one of the under performing employee's vans and view someone who is not doing the job properly. along with all of the relevant data collection and subsequent reviews of the data. They then roll out the trackers on the other vans including good employee's such as MrNoisy and then have to perform the same reviews of the data of a good driver such as MrNoisy to be able to compare the right way to do the job and the wrong way.

Makes sense to survey what you would want to be the benchmark first and then when the other vans get trackers you review your processes and training so that you can bring the staff not doing their jobs properly up to the standard of MrNoisy

It's not discrimination, well no one can conclude that as nothing here points to it being discriminatory.

you might feel you are being victimised, which is of course different.

a trial of one sounds weird. Is there any reason, or anything in these "management issues" that might help us not have to second guess. You state you are excellent at your job and work to rule (which can be construed with two different meanings) and you also state you have issues with management, which seems at odds with someone who is "excellent at their job"
Not that weird if the units cost alot and there are alot of vans

I always fell to understand why anyone cares about something aimed to check on them when they have nothing to hide. Whether it is targetted at you or not, why does it matter, or even better, isn't it a great opportunity for you to prove that you are indeed doing exactly what you say you do if you feel that they doubt you?
  • Then it could well be discrimination. How ever if they fit them to other vans will they turn them on?
Discrimination isn't illegal unless its one of the protected characteristics
