Making Christmas Pud?

I am thinking of making a Christmas pudding, and Google returns a wealth of BBC or Delia recipes.
I think I will have a whole host of questions but my first is the recipe I want to use doesn't have suet in but most traditional recipes do seem to?
Any advise for a first timer:o

Do it! I like Delia's recipe, but you can't go wrong really. Mine is steaming as I type! I think the hardest thing is fiddling about lining the basin, string lid etc., also steaming puds is not something I do very often so make sure you have right equipment and keep a check on it so pan doesn't boil dry.
I always add a large tablespoon of black treacle to any Xmas pud recipe, just what we like.0 -
As you've already noticed, most recipes do include suet and I think this makes for a lighter pudding. Is there any reason why you wouldn't want to use suet? If you're vegetarian, you can get a vegetarian suet.0

I have used the same recipe for the most part of 20 years. It doesn't use suet and tastes pretty good to me! I use a steamer and turn the heat down low and find that way the water doesn't need topping up nearly so often.0

Not keen on traditional Christmas pudding here so I make a microwave dumpling. None of the steaming for hours, 9 minutes in the micro, lovely light fruit pudding.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.
