  • I would like to thank you all for the kind words, i was so disappointed as i know i done a really good job , even taking two apprentices under my wing without asking for more money as i always think we need these kids in the manufacturing industry . The boss was a bit off a pig at the best of times , i was one of the few who would tell him what i thought and was always at loggerheads with him . Anyway 1st week over and i am so happy now being at home with my lovely wife . She has got me in the loft at the moment doing work i promised to do years ago . Anyway once again many thanks to you all :)

OP, just think. This reflects on their inability to empathise with you as a long standing employee, leaving a job that gave you and the employer so much benefit. The fact that they did nothing to mark your leaving reflects on their own stress levels - probably just managing, themselves, to hang on to their own sanity and jobs. I understand your annoyance but it might be more realistic to have pity on them, rather than resent them.

I have noticed that some posters whilst giving good and relevant advice can come across as a little insensitive on occasion. This is probably because they are just giving hard advice without understanding that peoples circumstances differ greatly. Indeed the attitude that you must be “bonkers” to take a pension early seems to be a common conception amongst many. Whilst a pension in most cases will incur a reduction for early uptake, one also has to consider the benefit that those extra early years payments can bring to many individuals (or couples)
As I have said in the past, there is no definitive right or wrong decision that can be attributed to a person’s individual circumstance.

I was in quite a well paid job but decided to take my pension early. Every day I seemed to come home stressed and really bad headaches.

That was 4 years ago and have never considered working since. I do not miss work or any of my colleagues. I worked with a really nice bunch of people but that was then and I do not want to dwell on the past so I never keep in touch with anyone. After all I have to get on with my life.

I spent three weeks in hospital one of them in intensive care. The company I work for and have for over 20 years didn't send any get well card or anyone come and visit. I work on the shop floor . Yet anyone in the office even on their birthday they get a card and we are all asked to sign it flowers cakes the lot
